The Alabama Arrow 2 A long with the busyness that comes with a new academic year, fall formal recruitment kept the women of Alabama Beta extra busy these first few weeks back at UA! RINGING IN A NEW SEMESTER WITH SUCCESSFUL RECRUITMENT e first week back at 845 Magnolia Dr. was a whirlwind of excitement and fun as we worked to polish our recruitment skills and prepare for the Potential New Members. Although the week was jampacked, Directors of Recruitment Shelby Stallings '15 and Lauren Jordan '15, Vice President of Membership Malia Graham '15 and Chapter President Jordan Clark '15 kept the week fun and exciting for the entire chapter. Every day had a different theme that the chapter got to dress in to get everyone involved and in the spirit of the week. In between learning door songs and bumping techniques, Alabama Beta was treated to a snow cone truck from the generous donation of our alumnae, along with other sisterhood events such as a pool party, popsicles and a water balloon fight. 123 NEW PI PHIS WELCOMED After the end of a successful work week, recruitment began early on the morning of Sunday, August 12. Alabama Beta enjoyed talking to over 2,200 women this year. On the morning of bid day, the excitement was palpable as the bid list was read to the chapter. Cheering and jumping up and down, we learned many of the PNMs we had gotten to know and love throughout the week had accepted the opportunity to call Pi Beta Phi their new home. OVER $9,000 RAISED FOR PHILANTHROPY In the spring, we hosted our second annual Literacy Awareness Week. Every member in the chapter contributed by volunteering at our local Arts n' Autism program, selling Lollipops for Literacy, advertising our Follow Your Arrow 5K and volunteering to read to the third grade class at Holt Elementary for our Fraternity Day of Service. With the efforts of the entire chapter, we raised over $9,000 in this week alone. In early August, our senior class went to Holt Elementary to help greet kids for the first day of school. Our members were placed in kindergarten and first grade classes and assisted teachers by facilitating classroom activities, reading to the class and distributing breakfast foods. GPA STANDS STRONG AT 3.44 Our spring 2018 GPA was a 3.44. We ranked 12th among the 18 Alabama Panhellenic Association chapters. Our chapter GPA ranks higher than the university women's average of a 3.36, and increased from the fall semester. We fell just shy of the all-sorority average of a 3.46, but we are working hard to increase our chapter average this semester. HIGH STANDARDS SET FOR NEW MEMBERS We are pleased to announce that our new member class had an impressive average high school GPA of 3.8! As we help transition these new members into college and Pi Phi, we will instill strong academic standards and expectations into our new member class. To help members with GPAs falling below a 3.1, we provide academic improvement plans to ensure they have the extra academic assistance they might need. We offer tutoring services and study hours to help them get their academics to a place where they feel satisfied and confident. Please come by any time to meet our new class of Alabama Betas and to see our gorgeous new chapter house.
