Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi 5 SILENT CHAPTER Sara Beth Tyhurst Canaday '61 entered Silent Chapter on April 27 at the age of 77. She attended Christian College before joining ΑΦ at the University of Missouri. Sara enjoyed working as an alumna with Omicron Chapter. After moving to New York State in 1969, she worked with Alpha Chapter in Syracuse and Delta Chapter at Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., where she lived at the time of her death. She served in various capacities for ΑΦ, including as chapter advisor, on house corporation boards, and as a district representative. Sara, who enjoyed traveling and took numerous cruises, is survived by her daughter, Susan Krippner, son, John Canaday, her two granddaughters, Katharine and Charlotte Krippner, and her sister, Jean Ann Tyhurst Ferguson '64. ALUMNAE NEWS Carol Swank Miller '45 lives at The Heights, a nursing and rehabilitation center in Tomball, Texas. "I get around in a wheelchair," she shares. "I enjoy reading, working puzzles, and visits with my daughter, Barbara, who lives in Magnolia. I will turn 92 years old in September and my health is good!" Email: casmiller@juno.com Elizabeth Smallfelt '56 moved into a San Diego retirement home two years ago. The home houses over 600 residents in two 21-story towers and an eight-story attached building. "We spend a lot of time riding elevators," Elizabeth shares. Email: esmallfelt@twc.com Sandra Reynolds Yon '57 is a volunteer at a local hospital and the Virginia Aquarium. She's accumulated over 32,000 volunteer hours in the past 14 years. She is an avid traveler, having visited over 116 countries, including her most recent trip to South Korea. Sandra also writes about her trips for travel magazines and for her upcoming book. She stayed in Columbia after graduating and taught art at Jefferson Junior High School. Mary and her husband, Carey, lived in many locations due to Carey's Army and DuPont career, which allowed her to meet several ΑΦ sisters over the years. After Carey retired from the Army Reserve as a colonel, the couple moved to the Atlanta, Ga., near their daughter's family, including her wonderful husband and three grandsons, who are all in college. In April 2018, they caught up in person at Karen's second home in Marble Falls, Texas, picking up right where they left off. "Maybe it was the chocolate pie from the Bluebonnet Cafe," Denise shares. Tammy is co-editor of an anthology of essays, Idol Talk: Women Writers on the Teenage Infatuations That Changed Their Lives, which includes 44 female authors and a foreword written by Tammy's idol, Peter Noone, of Herman's Hermits. Providence Road to the house for weekly meetings, new member duties, and study hall. The women have remained good friends through these 60 years since meeting in September of 1958 at the Alpha Phi House! The graduating class of 1980 gathered for a June weekend in the Delmar Loop area of St. Louis to celebrate their 60th birthdays.
