O ur chapter house will once again be a very fine house with your help! The summer months are generally a time to do some deep cleaning, a few fix-it jobs, sometimes getting some new paint or wallpaper, or cleaning floors and rugs. This sum- mer saw a completely different approach to the upkeep of our be- loved chapter house. On May 14 and 15, we met White Moving & Storage at the chapter house and they began packing all our precious memories to be stored for the next 15 months. They packed with care as they inventoried everything to take to their climate-controlled warehouse. Some items were packed and placed near the front of storage so we could get to them for recovering, framing, etc., when the time comes. Then, on May 16, Little Di- xie Construction Company took charge and began the demolition process for the complete remodel and the new addition to be added to the north side of the house. During the internal demoli- tion, we found some deteri- oration of the outer walls in the original house. Consid- ering the original house is 90 years old, it is in very good condition. The structural engineer and masonry specialist agree the damage is repairable, but this will be an added expense to the budget. Investi- gation and remediation of these issues will delay construction, and estimates for the cost of repairs need to be completed. Our contrac- tor is working to make up the time lost. This house is near and dear to members past and present, so please help with this added expense that will make the house a home for many years to come. If you have not been contacted, please call me and I will make sure we reach out to you. Every little bit helps, whether it's $5, $50, $500, $5,000, or anything in between or great- er. It all adds together to make wonderful memories for future gen- erations and a place for us to all visit while we are in Columbia for a game, a meeting, or just passing through.
