Sharp-eyed fans will notice appearances by then-Bears Dick Butkus, Mike Ditka, Jack Concannon and Ed O'Bradovich. "The Longest Yard" (1974) A sadistic prison warden (Eddie Arnold) enlists a former pro quarterback (the late Burt Reynolds) to organize a team of inmates to play a team of guards in this fine drama from director Robert Aldrich. "Semi-Tough" (1977) Reynolds' comedic charms were arguably at their peak when he starred with Kris Kristofferson in this comedy about two NFL teammates and their relationship with the owner's daughter (Jill Clayburgh). "Heaven Can Wait" (1978) Warren Beatty co-directed (with Buck Henry) and starred in this comedy about an NFL quarterback who winds up in the body of a deceased millionaire after being taken before his time by an overeager angel (James Mason). Julie Christie, Charles Grodin, Dyan Cannon and Henry are also in the fine cast. "North Dallas Forty" (1979) The excesses of life in the NFL are front and center of this semi- fictional drama about two hedonistic players (Nick Nolte, Mac Davis) on a team with championship ambitions. Charles Durning, G.D. Spradlin, Bo Svenson and Dabney Coleman also star for director Ted Kotcheff. "Remember the Titans" (2000) Denzel Washington was outstanding in this true story of an African American football coach and his attempts to integrate his high school's team in 1971 Virginia.
