Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Missouri • Fall 2018 Summer Projects Give 900 Richmond Ave. a New Look Renovations Completed Just in Time for Formal Recruitment I t was a VERY busy summer at 900 Richmond Avenue and with great results. The 2018 summer work was extensive, highlighted by an update to the front staircase. To open the foyer and create a more dramatic entrance, the wall was removed between the staircase, foyer and composite room. The redesigned staircase features a combination of wood and carpet stairs, wrought iron spindles to match the circular stairs to the lower level and a wood landing opening to the composite room and foyer. The composite room wood paneling was replaced with drywall. Members and their families loved the new open look and other updates on move-in day in August. Since then, new artwork has been hung in the composite room. Other work included new furniture in three bedrooms, new flooring in nine bedrooms, new windows and blinds on the north and west sides of the chapter house, new accessories in the formal living room and new furniture for the gorgeous front patio installed last summer. New rugs for the entry and composite room are on order to arrive shortly. New artwork was installed in the lower level restroom. House corporation board members Karen Knoblauch Neylon '79, Jeannine Bax Brickey '81 and others spent many hours to ensure the members returned to a beautiful home for the 2018-19 school year. UNFORESEEN OBSTACLES This project ran into the usual "Fixer Upper" and "Property Brothers" structural issues. The wall between the staircase and composite room was a loadbearing wall and required steel beams and piers to support the second and third floors. This caused some delays and anxious moments for the contractors and house corporation team, but as you see from the pictures, the results were worth it. CONVENTION TAKEAWAY Jeannine and I were excited to attend the 60th Alpha Chi Omega Convention in Austin, Texas, in June. We went early to attend house corporation-specific sessions that were very informative, including an educational session with MJ Insurance on housing safety and security and risk management ideas. We also attended sessions on college enrollment trends, financial budgeting and long-term planning. It was a very busy weekend; but was a great opportunity to connect with other house corporation board members from other chapters and headquarters staff to compare operations and strategies. THANK YOU The chapter and house corporation board appreciate the support of alumnae, family and friends in keeping the Alpha Chi Omega chapter house at Mizzou the best it can be. We need your continued support for future projects and our upcoming centennial celebration in 2022. Please let me know if you are interested in joining or helping the house corporation board.
