The Beacon 2 DELTA KAPPA REACHES HIGHEST GPA TO DATE Chapter WelComes 58 Fall NeW members T he Delta Kappa Chapter is enjoying another strong year. In the spring semester, we boasted our highest ever cumulative GPA at a 3.25—this puts us in third place among OU fraternities. Over the years, we have steadily increased our GPA and our academ- ic standard. We also won the Sooner Scandals, an event put on by the university that pits fra- ternities and sororities against one another in a singing and dancing competition. This marks our third win in University Sing and Scandals shows out of the last four events. In addition, the national fraternity recognized us for a variety of awards, including True Merit honorable mention. Our streak of consecutive years receiving True Merit or honorable mention is now at eight. As we surge forward into another school year, our goals and aspirations are higher than ever. In a time when fraternities have received well-deserved scrutiny, we do not want to be a part of the problem; we have thus made a full recovery since last fall's sanctions. We have restruc- tured our pledge education program, strengthened our brotherhood, and reminded one another of the importance of love and respect. Our values are the very thing that set us apart from other chapters and the reason for our optimism. We are excited to welcome 58 new pledges into our chapter this fall after a very competitive recruitment. Deliberations were long, but we believe that the 58 men we selected are the best fit for our chapter and the next generation of great Alpha Taus. We thank you for your continued support of our chapter. Love and Respect, Garrett Holmes '16 Chapter President garrettholmes@ou.edu This spring, we supported OU's dance marathon, Soonerthon, which raised over $1 million for the Children's Miracle Network. Our very own vice president, Colt Bennett '17, will serve as the chairman for next year's event. We are excited to have these brothers represent Delta Kappa as campus tour guides. If you know somebody visiting OU this year, an ATW might be giving their tour! Our members attended the Gender and Equality Center's annual Pink and Black Ball fundraiser along with the women of Alpha Gamma Delta. These brothers are members of OU's Lead Team, a leadership education and development program. They act as ambassadors for the Office of Leadership and Volunteerism. Many of our members studied abroad this sum- mer! Here, some of our brothers got to visit the Eiffel Tower.
