Robert Davidge Ann Snider Schluederberh '47 In memory of Dr. Mary Adele Snider Davis '42 Kathryn A. Koehler '56 Beth McLaughlin Gest '58 Sharon Taylor Ewell '65 Deborah Simon Sheppard '82 W hen you think of the best Delta Gammas at Ohio State, one of the first names that comes to mind is Leann Grimes Davidge '75. Leann received the Conway-CHASE award for the "outstanding Greek woman on campus" and served as recruitment chairman for several years, she did all of this while playing on a Division I women's tennis team. The summa cum laude graduate and captain of the team won four Big Ten titles before coaching the University of Miami (Ohio) women's team to four consecutive championships. Leann's mom, Joann Whitley Grimes '50, was in Epsilon and Joann's roommate, Mary Baremore Enochs '50, wrote Leann's sponsor form for DG. Leann continued to support Delta Gamma after graduation by becoming the chapter advisor at the University of Miami. Her bond with Epsilon grew even stronger when her brother, Gregg, married Kelli Custenborder Grimes '82. Leann's life was cut short in 1986 when she died in an automobile accident. She was 28 years old. The Mid-American Conference, Miami, Ohio State, and Delta Gamma all have awards and scholarships in Leann's honor. She has been inducted into the first female class of the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame as well as the first female ever inducted into the Miami University Athletic Hall of Fame and Cradle of Coaches. When Joann thinks of Epsilon, she remembers some of Leann's closest sisters, including Debbie Shonkwiler Garno '74, Joanne Schultz Sweeney '74, Kim Smith Tenbrink '74, Leslie Smith '75, Julie Hartshorn Snavely '75, Dena Barry Logan '76, and Susan Walton Liebert '77. "These friendships lasted long after the college days. Mary Pat Wallace '48 was a great friend and mentor to Leann with Delta Gamma activities." Leann's impact spans decades of Epsilons. Joann wants to make sure that all Delta Gammas know how much they mean to her. "Leann's brother, Gregg, her son, Rob, former husband, Bill, and I are honored to have the study room dedicated to Leann. She loved her years living in the house and I am sure she would wish all the Delta Gammas at Epsilon to have the same happy times and memories that she had there." Leann absolutely loved being a Delta Gamma. Leann's brother, Gregg, can be reached at ggrimes@insuranceassociates.net.
