It is a measure of personal success, a significant contributor to business achievement, and makes several businesses in Marin County standouts in their fields. When Marin native David Warner established Redhorse Constructors in the early 1980s, he focused on sustainable construction. He attended the University of California at Berkeley's College of Natural Resources, and in the course of his studies, became sensitive to the earth's resources and the idea of pairing them with social justice. When he launched his business, however, that kind of thinking wasn't prevalent. "It was a huge effort to start with that as your premise, and where we are now," says Warner, who employs 50 to 55 workers. Simply putting up buildings has never been his endgame.
