Summer 2018 MANIFESTO C H A P T E R : t h e t a c h i b u . c o m | A L U M N I : g a m m a u p s i l o n . o r g Gamma Upsilon Chapter Eternal Brother John Ray Myers '56, age 82, from Henry, Ill., passed away on October 14, 2017, at Morton Terrace HealthCare Centre in Morton. John attended Tremont Grade School, graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School in 1952, graduated from Bradley University in 1956 with a B.A., and graduated from Illinois State University with a master's degree. He served his country in the United States Army. John worked as an accountant for Illinois Power Company in Decatur, Ill., and then taught business education for 21 years at Tremont, Peoria Limestone and Kewanee Wethersfield. He also was an outside agent for Peoria Ambassador Travel Service for 20 years. John was a world traveler and prolific travel author. He wrote Around Australia in a Campervan, Spain and Portugal in a Bus, and Bradley Basketball Review. He also wrote approximately 500 articles for the Henry News Republican. Brother Harold D. Turley '54, age 86, of Peoria, Ill., passed away on November 16, 2017, at Grand View Alzheimer's Special Care Center. Harold was a 1954 graduate of Bradley University. He was a real estate appraiser with First Federal Savings, and later worked at the Department of Transportation. After leaving, he was self- employed in real estate sales and appraisal until his retirement. He was also a member of Appraisal Institute, MAI, Building Owner and Managers Group of Peoria, Peoria Board of Realtors, and Illinois Real Estate Appraisal Committee from March 1990 to March 1997. Harold was a member of First United Methodist Church. Brother Drohmer Stanton Korista '62, age 77, known to his family and brothers as Stan, passed away peacefully in his New Lenox home with his family at his side on May 8, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Korista (nee Swedell); his children, Kirk Thomas Korista (Angela), Amy Anne Korista Hammond (Eric), and Kathleen Gail Korista Goszkowicz (Richard); grandchildren, Suzanne Hammond Templin ( Jon), Bryan Hammond, David Korista ( Jessica), Phillip Korista, Mark Hammond, Krista Hammond, Grace Goszkowicz, and Greta Goszkowicz; great- granddaughter, Jaiden Korista; and sister, Karen Mayo ( James). Stan was born November 19, 1940, in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Lincoln-Way High School, New Lenox, Ill., as part of the original graduating class of 1958. He then graduated from Bradley University with a degree in civil engineering (BSCE), where met his wife, Joyce Swedell, of Peoria. Stan then worked in structural engineering research at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign where he obtained his Masters of Science degree (MSCE). Brother Korista began his 52-year career at the international architectural engineering firm, Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, in Chicago, Ill., where he was structural engineer, partner, and director. He was involved in over 300 building projects in 42 states and 27 foreign countries. Some of the projects he was most proud of were the Hancock Center in Chicago, Ill. (construction), the First Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, Wis., the Rowes Wharf in Boston, Mass., the Canary Wharf in London, England (infrastructure phase and initial buildings), and the Burj Dubai in Dubai, UAE (the tallest building in the world). He was involved with the United Methodist Church of New Lenox for over 60 years. Stan was also involved as a volunteer at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
