Police Chief Paul Nanfito issued the findings in a press release Friday. "Any loss of life is tragic and we extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of Daniel Lyons Myers," the release concludes. Officers had responded to 525 Linn Ave. around 12:30 that morning for a 911 call regarding a man who was inside the residence with a knife and acting irrationally. Officers attempted to detain Myers, who violently resisted their attempts. Myers was eventually handcuffed, but then began to show signs of serious medical distress. By RICH GREENE DN Staff Writer Gregg Avilla thanked friends and colleagues for creating one more memory Friday afternoon at a farewell luncheon held in his honor along with fellow outgoing Tehama County Supervisor Ron Warner and the recently passed George Russell. "The people are absolutely wonderful. The people of Tehama County — I've tried my best," Avilla said. Avilla, Warner and Russell's widow, Sharon Russell, received plaques and gavels in respect for their service on the board. County Administrator Bill Goodwin said it was an event where you were happy for the people being honored, but sad for yourself because you will miss working with them. Avilla joked he still doesn't "know what it means to be sorely missed." Warner had jokes as well, commenting that when he retired as a fire chief in 1989 the furthest thing on his mind was to return to public service. "It's been interesting. It's been fun. I took my See SUPES, page 9A The community has spoken and the Fourth of July fireworks will return to Red Bluff River Park for 2013. "We will be proceeding with River Park as our first choice for our fireworks show," Chairwoman Shannon Nason said. "We will be filling out paper work this month and should have an update on progress at the next meeting." In August, the committee was formed and by September, starting at the Beef 'N Brew, cans were put out both at local events and in a few local businesses. Voting was conducted taking the money collected for the Fourth of July show and counting each dollar as a vote. The group has raised $2,291.54 so far, but will be continuing its efforts using other methods, Nason said. "We are going to try and be present at one event every month," Nason said. "Hopefully, January's event will be the Bull & Gelding Sale." Other fundraising efforts include the continuation of collection boxes, which went out Jan. 1 to the Gold Exchange, M&M Ranch House, The Cutting Edge Salon, Buns on the Run at Home Depot, First Love Tattoo and the Red BluffTehama County Chamber of Commerce. Between now and Fourth of July, the boxes will be rotated to various local businesses. A in Red Bluff on Monday. The department was forced to move after a July 4 fire burnt down its previous location on Diamond Avenue. The 1986 Mercy High School graduate now holds the title of United States Army Space and Missile Defense Future Warfare Center Capabilities Director. Miralda says she owes much to adult volunteers in Tehama County, especially the Rocketry Program in 4-H led by Tom Miles. In an effort to give back, the former All-Star spoke over the holidays with 4-H members about her life and where 4-H had taken her.
