3 GAMMA PSI OF BETA THETA PI T he past year was one for the books for the Gamma Psi Chapter! The chapter excelled in all areas including recruitment, intramural sports, alumni relations, and academics. The undergraduates of Gamma Psi earned a col- lective spring semester GPA of 3.35, which was well above the IFC average of 2.97 and placed second among 31 fraternal chapters. I think this is a shining example of the impor- tance of academics that Gamma Psi Chapter highlighted, even as we grew to over 90 mem- bers in the spring. Intramural sports added to the chapter's per- formance of excellence. We played in the IFC leagues in soccer, flag football, hockey, bas- ketball, and baseball and made the finals in soccer, basketball, and baseball. Late this spring, Spencer Benn '20 returned from a seven-month deployment with the Marines in the Helmond Province of Afghani- stan. Spencer embodies every aspect of what makes Beta so great and we are all proud to call Spencer our brother. Spencer, we thank you for your service. Spencer says, "I am ex- cited to be back in East Lansing and ready to finish up my degree at Michigan State." The new executive board placed an emphasis on building stronger relations with our alumni advisers and House Corporation with great re- sults. With that in mind, the chapter has been able to use this valuable resource to our advan- tage through recruiting and housing operations. Keep your eyes open for alumni events in the fall, including a golf outing and football tailgate at the Beta house. See the tailgate details in this newsletter. Overall, the Gamma Psi Chapter has been on an upward trajectory toward excellence and will continue to drive forward this com- ing year. We are excited for the year to start and get back to business as usual. Look for an email update soon regarding our annual Beta Beach Day philanthropic event planned for early this fall. Serving as president this se- mester has been one of the best experiences I have ever had and I cannot wait to pick up where we left off!
