U-Preps Jurin slices through Mercy By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor Sometimes it takes just one player. University Preps Kelsie Jurin drove through Mercys defense Wednesday at Mercy High School to lift the Panthers to a 6644 victory. Jurins 33 points was more than half of her teams total in the contest. She also was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Mercy center Jessica Curl did what she could in the post, bringing in a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but it wouldnt be enough to hold off UPrep, which improved to 9-4 on their season. The Lady Panthers' balanced scoring in the first put U-Prep up 14-7 on the Warriors going into the second. Then Jurin took over. The 5-foot-6 sophomore guard scored 15 of the Panthers 20 points in the period. Curl, for her part, scored 11 points in the quarter but the Warriors would head into the half down 34-18. Jurin continued her prolific scoring night with eight points in the third and six in the fourth. Mercy next faces Chester at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mercy High School. NBA | Kings 97, Cavaliers 94 Sacramento grabs road win over Cleveland CLEVELAND (AP) Jason Thompson and the Sacramento Kings overcame their shortcomings for a rare road win. Thompson had 19 points and 10 rebounds and DeMarcus Cousins added 18, leading the Kings to their second road win of the season, a 97- 94 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. Weve got enough talent to win on the road, but were not strong enough yet to recognize its about patience and playing the clock, as well as what happens when you have the ball, Kings coach Keith Smart said. John Salmons 3-pointer from the corner with 52.9 seconds remaining gave Sacramento the lead for good, 92-90. The win broke a seven-game losing streak away from home for the Kings, who are 2-13 on the road and played without injured guards Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton, their second and third leading scorers. The Kings previous road win was a 99-80 victory over Portland on Dec. 8. Salmons clutch shot came after See KINGS, page 2B
