Luning Is Veteran With Good Record W. F. Luning is the only pioneer in the official family of Tehama county to retire from office at the beginning of the new year. He was not a candidate for re-election. For thirty two years Mr. Luning was returned to the office of county surveyor by the electorate of Tehama county, and not once did he betray the confidence reposed in him. Jan. 2, 1923 In early December the Tehama County Museum hosted a group of bird watchers and bird enthusiasts from Sacramento through Sports Leisure Vacations. Tour coordinator Ramona G. had led an earlier 2012 visit to the Museum as part of a longer excursion. She was so impressed by the one-of-a-kind birds of a feather exhibit that she organized this second tour specifically to view the exhibit housed in the Marty Graffell Annex. And they were enthusiastic TCM Secretary and docent Paul Quinn said. The tour started with an introduction by TCM President Chris Bauer (left), and then Executive Director Pam Britting (right), who also serves as Associate Curator, spoke in depth about the bird art display. The tour members started asking questions about the area around Tehama County from the time they got off the bus until they were ready to leave, Britting said. Questions started with the birds of the area, but quickly branched out to questions about all kinds of things including the history, the railroad, the Sacramento River, access to Lassen Park, costs of living, retirement housing and cultural opportunities. It was even revealed that one of the tour group members had ties to the City of Tehama - family members had owned the towns feed store. The tour ended with discussions about bringing another group up from Sacramento to attend the Museums 32nd Annual Jubilee Celebration in September of 2013. TCM Board member April Pryor observed that the TCM is just one of the many attractions in Tehama County available to visitors who exit I-5 into this area and that collectively, we need to get the word out to both the travelers through and residents of Tehama County that wed like to get acquainted. The Tehama County Museum can be contacted for group tours by phone at (530) 3842595 or by e-mail at tcmuse@tehama.net and tehamacountymuseum.org.
