TOPS meets FAMILY SEPARATION I just read Representative Gosar's Facebook page (see his post below), and I am saddened by the alarm- ingly callous way he characterizes families. When we speak about family sepa- ration let's step back and see what is taking place. The administration forcibly took children from their parents and put them into deten- tion centers. That's fact, as federal judges have confi rmed. To use statistics to build a phoney and distorted interpretation of the wrenching emotional trauma suf- fered by these parents and their chil- dren is cruel and dishonest. I have news for Mr. Gosar: the parents do care, the people who don't care are this administration and its enablers. Americans have overwhelmingly re- jected this shameful policy, and the courts have ruled it illegal. Support- ing family separation is turning your back on the principles that made America great in the fi rst place. Rep. Gosar, writing on Facebook: "The data shows that of the 2,551 adults who were recently separated from children age fi ve and older at the border, 917 are 'either not, or not yet known to be eligible, for re- unifi cation;' 130 waived their right to be reunited because they wanted their children to get refugee status; and for 463, 'case notes indicated adult is not in U.S., under review.' This likely means that in addition to the 130 who didn't seem to care about reuniting with their children, an additional 463 left the country without explicitly waiving their right of reunifi cation, but still left their kids behind."
