Seeing those beautiful colors magically suspended in the sky as sunlight passes through rain is awe-inspiring. A rainbow dares us to dream. The world's most talented gemstone enthusiasts and jewelry designers accepted that dare and have been dreaming in color for generations. The American Gem Trade Association's Spectrum Awards provides a showcase for these artists and each year we look forward to seeing the products of their limitless creativity. Nothing showcases those rare and beautiful col- ored gemstone creations like platinum. Platinum is 30 times more rare than gold and is a natu- rally white metal that will never fade or change color over time, providing a perfect canvas that highlights and complements every gem. Platinum's unique characteristics enable design- ers to stretch the limits of their creativity while providing the greatest degree of security to those beautiful gemstones. It's why Platinum Guild International and the American Gem Trade Association are very excited to introduce a new category in this year's Spectrum Awards competition – Best Use of a Platinum Crown. Nothing holds a diamond or gemstone more securely than a platinum crown and we look forward to seeing these artists' unique interpre- tation of this vitally important component of jewelry design. The phrase "chasing rainbows" comes to mind whenever I think about the Platinum Honors categories of the Spectrum Awards each year. The dictionary defi nes that phrase as follows: to constantly pursue things that are unrealistic or unlikely to happen. Platinumsmiths and jewelry designers have been successfully chasing rainbows throughout their careers. They make the unreal- istic, realistic, the impossible, possible. So keep chasing rainbows and inspiring the next genera- tion of designers – we can't wait to see your creations! Omi Prive -
