To help ensure the state's motorists keep this lifesaving commitments, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is preparing to ring in the New Year with an increased enforcement presence throughout the state. During the 2012 New Year's holiday, 25 people were killed in collisions throughout California; the majority of which died within CHP jurisdiction were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Additionally, CHP officers made more than 1,200 arrests for driving under the influence (DUl). "Safety is the California Highway Patrol's priority year round,��� CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said. "Hopefully with the presence of additional officers on the roadway during (he holiday season, everyone will arrive safely at their destination." "Our ultimate goal is to help prevent avoidable tragedy by encouraging the public to make responsible choices such as designating a sober driver, buckling up and traveling at a speed safe for conditions," Farrow said. Tornado damages nursery in Watsonville Cruz County after evaluating radar data and visiting a damaged nursery on Wednesday. The meteorologist, Logan Johnson, says the tornado that hit Saturday morning had winds of about 75 mph and headed inland about a mile from the coast on a path 20 yards wide. Arrests ��� Daniel Allen Deshields, 44, Redding was arrested for felony harm to an elder and misdemeanor battery. Bail was $10,000. ��� Roger Lee Massie, 42, Red Bluff was arrested for possession of concentrate cannabis. Bail was $15,000. ��� Ricky Lee Reynolds aka Blake Joseph Hupp or Taz, 31, Corning was arrested for a felony parole violation. Yokesters A series of egg throwing incidents were reported around 9 p.m. Thursday in Red Bluff. First someone reported an egg had been tossed at them at Circle K. A few minutes later there was another report of eggs being thrown near Walnut and Baker. About 20 minutes later someone at Jackson Heights School reported they had been hit with three eggs. The vehicle was described as a small, lowered, blue Toyota pickup. One reporting party said damage had been done to their vehicle. Prowler A 21-year-old woman on Kaer Avenue reported someone tried to enter her home shortly after midnight Thursday. She said she did not see anyone, but saw the door shake and the knob moving. Thefts ��� Someone at the Red Bluff McDonald���s reported a man was possibly trying to break into his pickup truck around 6 a.m. Thursday. ��� Chevron reported a theft from a car wash machine. ��� A Beverly Avenue resident reported her unlocked vehicle was rummaged through Wednesday night. ��� Comfort Inn reported a television was stolen from a room. ��� A Treasure Drive resident reported someone rummaged through their unlocked vehicle. ��� Grocery Outlet reported a juvenile shoplifter around 6 p.m. Thursday. ��� Red Bluff Laundries reported the theft of clothes. ��� A 31-year-old man reported someone had used his personal information to obtain a credit account. ��� A resident on the 24000 block of Gardiner Ferry Road reported the theft of items. ��� All Service Propane reported someone cut the lock of a propane meter and was using propane without paying for it. ��� Around 20-30 seedling olive trees were KWIK KUTS Family Hair Salon 20 % off taken sometime in the past month from an orchard on the 3000 block of Hall Road. Vandalism ��� A vehicle on Walnut Street was vandalized. ��� A Lay Avenue resident reported someone drove a vehicle through her front yard. Battery Two 16-year-old boys got into an argument while in a classroom at Centennial High School and began fighting on Dec. 18. The school resource officer was called and interviewed the students, who were released to their parents. One student had slight swelling under his left eye and the other student complained of pain and had a small bump under his left eye. Both students refused medical treatment and were suspended for fighting on school grounds. A report was forwarded to the probation department. Fire The cause of a structure fire reported at 10:42 p.m. Thursday in the 21700 block of Wilcox Road is under investigation. The fire, which was an attic fire in a single family residence, was contained at 12:04 a.m. Nothing further was available. Maked man An officer was flagged down at 12:58 a.m. Thursday regarding a suspicious circumstance involving a man with a mask over his face behind the 7-11 Store on Solano Street in Corning. The officer contacted the man who was wearing a black bandana across his face and advised him to rethink wearing a bandana over his face near a convenience store. Shots Corning Police received a call at 10:07 p.m. Thursday from a man stating he was uninjured, but had been shot at by unknown persons near an open field in the area of Toomes and Grant avenues. The man said he was approached by three people in a black Acura asking if he was the one shooting out windows. Nothing further was available. Vandalism Someone reported a window at a South Street building had been broken sometime between Monday and noon Thursday. Extra patrol was requested.
