He has performed in Red Bluff a dozen times, each time delighting fans and making new friends. Singer, songwriter, humorist and small town philosopher, McClain writes and sings about what he knows: Life, Love, Dogs, Trailers, Family, Christmas, Music and most every other subject imaginable. After a Nashville record deal proved unfruitful in 1999, McClain, who lives outside of Nashville, Tenn., took the reins himself and blazed an independent campaign, relying on fan involvement ��� they call themselves Flamingoheads ��� to finance each album, and help promote live shows and events. Tickets are already going fast for country star Wynonna Judd���s first appearance at Redding���s Cascade Theatre in a newly announced show for February. The show is an addon to the current Jefferson Public Radio/Cascade Theatre performance. Grammy winner Wynonna and her band The Big Noise will perform on the historic Cascade Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21. As one half of The Judds, Wynonna is one of the most popular and respected female country stars of her time. Call to plein air artists for artist-in-residence Whiskeytown National Recreation Area���s Artist-in-Residence Program is seeking submissions from professional plein air artists to apply for the park���s 2013 residencies. Selected artists will have the opportunity to spend up to four weeks in an artists��� cabin in Whiskeytown to produce new works. The Whiskeytown program allows professionals the opportunity to become part of the long-established tradition of artists working in and sharing the splendor of our national parks. Richard Lindenberg, marketing manager of Plein Air Magazine, will juror this year���s submissions. Lindenberg is an accomplished landscape painter and former participant in the Whiskeytown Artist in Residence program. The deadline for entry is Feb. 22, 2013. Selected artists will be notified by park staff the week of March 11th. In exchange for their stay, artists will be asked to conduct at least one program for the public, and to donate a piece of art reflective of their time at Whiskeytown. Whiskeytown is situated just seven miles west of Redding. The park features 39,000 acres of forests and a beautiful 3,200-acre lake nestled among the hills and valleys of California's Klamath Mountains. The cabin is a great base from which to explore the park by boat, car or on foot.
