Special to NWa Democrat-Gazette The Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center is excited to announce the start of a new health and wellness program called Drums Alive on July 16. This program will take place on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Senior Center located at 945 S College in Fayetteville. The class will be taught by Instructor Gail Maxwell, and is open to anyone age 60 and over. The Senior Center offers 24 weekly health and wellness classes including Silver Sneakers, Use It or Lose It, Yoga, Pilates, and Stretch. "Regardless of your age or physical ability, Drums Alive has something for everyone," Maxwell said. "Come join the fun, while getting a great mental and physical workout." Drums Alive® is the original and only evidence-based drumming fitness, health, and wellness program that provides a "Whole Brain & Whole Body" workout which promotes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive health at all life stages. Drums Alive works directly with research teams at the University of Chemnitz (Germany), Texas State University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of Arkansas Medical Sciences, and the University of Kentucky to prove the claims of its effectiveness. The program has received multiple awards for its innovative design promoting physical, emotional, social, and cognitive health through the use of music, movement, and beats. The Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center is a part of the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas which commits financial and human resources to enhance the lives of the Northwest Arkansas senior and elderly community. The Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30p.m., Monday through Friday, for anyone age 60 and over. The center offers multiple daily activities, an on-site lunch, wellness classes, monthly trips, local taxi service, and delivers 250 meals per day in the community. It is conveniently located on the eastern edge of Walker Park in South Fayetteville at 945 S College.
