SUPPORT NU CHAPTER'S BRIGHT FUTURE Help Us Reach Our $1 Million Goal J o Birkhauser Greenhalgh '68 never thought she would participate in fall formal recruitment. In high school, she was extraordinarily shy, so the thought of stepping outside of her comfort zone was daunting. However, when she stepped foot inside the Nu Chapter House she imme- diately felt at home, which is why Jo felt a calling to sup- port Continuing the Tradition: A Campaign for Nu. "When I looked around at all the women I had met, I knew I could fit in here. I was still really shy, but my sisters just all seemed to accept me for who I was." Aer her initial surprise at being elected secretary and then recruitment chairman during her undergraduate years, Jo felt her self-confidence growing. "It was really important that they support- ed me and encouraged me. is made all the difference in my experience." As an alumna, the bonds of sisterhood have only become more prevalent in Jo's life. On her wedding day, a group of sisters formed a circle around Jo with their housemother, Mrs. Olson, and cook, Annie May, to sing "Shades." She even found a new Chi Omega connection through her mother's friend, who joined in the song as well. "It was such a sweet moment and one of the most moving things to experience." e support Jo received only continued to serve her in her family business, AutoGlass Specialist, as purchasing clerk and vice president. "I was a very accommodating type of person and didn't possess much self-confidence. Having been in a sorority, I did learn to think for myself and make my voice heard." When Jo visits the Chapter House, she is oen reminded of her journey as an undergraduate to a strong and confident alumna. She still keeps in touch with her close friends and challenges them to take advantage of any opportunity to reconnect with Chi Omega. "It's wonderful to reminisce in front of the young members. ey're always so interested to hear what it was like back in the day." Jo has enjoyed living close to Nu Chapter in Madison with her husband, Tom. "If you are a Nu Chapter alumna you really do need to visit the Chapter House. Things have changed for the better, but it is still im- portant to make the Chapter House livable for more women to ensure they have the best Chi Omega experience possible."
