July 11, 2018 www.DesertMessenger.com 11 It will soon be summer vacation here at the Salvation Army. We will be closing for nine days. See posted announcement. Days of closure are July 24, 25, 26, 31, August 1, 2, 7, 8, 9. We will reopen on August 14th. Thanks for understanding that we all need a summertime vacation. We sent four happy youngsters to Salvation Army week long Camp Ponderosa Ranch in Heber AZ. Kiddos came back tired but all stated they had fun and meet new and old friends. Thanks Jan Collier, Transit Coor- dinator, Town of Quartzsite, for providing the transportation to and from Phoenix. A special thanks to driver Shelia for an excellent ride and pro- vided wonderful snacks, too. It was reported to me from headquarters, … "They were good kids and our driver was wonderful and helpful." Attendance is free to children ages 7 – 12. This event is provided by your coins being dropped into our Red Kettle Campaign that begins the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas eve. The cost per child is about $400.00. Think about this activity for your child next summer. Come see me in early March as all the registration must be completed on line. This is such a wonderful opportunity and memorable experience for our children. A big thank you to American Custom Tire, Inc. for providing the tires and the VFW Post 769 members for removing the fi re victims fi fth wheel from the site of the May 1st arson fi re. He is very appreciative. We are providing cool bottles of water as a cooling station with these high temperatures we are having. Our air-conditioned building is a real blessing to us all. Stop in and be refreshed. Hydration is critical. We just received word that we were awarded a Thrivent Community Ac- tion Grant. We purchased with the grant monies, over 100 cases of water from Dollar General. Cases were distributed to Quartzsite Police Depart- ment, Quartzsite Fire Department, Town of Quartzsite-Transit & Com- munity Center, Quartzsite Food Bank, and Quartzsite Salvation Army. Additionally, with this project, we also are doing a community wide water drive to supplement these cooling/hydration programs. We thank Dollar General, Roadrunner Market, and Family Dollar for allowing our collec- tion carts to be placed in their stores. Thanks to those community mem- bers that purchase water and place at these collection establishments. This water will continue to be distributed to local agencies because of the generosity of our town members. Thanks, so much.
