The former U.S. Olympian apparently led a secret life for nearly a year as a $600-an-hour escort in Las Vegas. 3-time Olympian Favor Hamilton says she worked as escort Associated Press Three-time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton says she coped with depression and a troubled marriage by turning to a life of prostitution. In a series of posts to her Twitter account, Favor Hamilton acknowledged working as an escort following a report Thursday on The Smoking Gun website about her double life. I do not expect people to understand, Favor Hamilton tweeted. But the reasons for doing this made sense to me at the time and were very much related to depression. The Smoking Gun said the 44year-old athlete has been working for the last year for a Las Vegas escort service that booked her for dates there, as well as in Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago. The website said she charged $600 an hour for her services. One of the countrys best-ever middle-distance runners, Favor Hamilton competed for the U.S. at the Olympics in 1992, 1996 and 2000 but did not win a medal. She won seven U.S. national titles. She lives in Madison, Wis., where, The Smoking Gun reported, she and her husband, Mark, live in a $600,000 home and appear to be in no financial distress based on the websites review of court and municipal records. Favor Hamilton told the website that only her husband was aware of her escort work, but that, He tried, he tried to get me to stop. He wasnt supportive of this at all. The website reported that Favor Hamilton worked under the alias Kelly Lundy but said she told some of her clients about her true identity and suspected one of them leaked it. Soon after the story appeared online, Favor Hamilton released a series of tweets saying in part that she was drawn to escorting in large part because it provided many coping mechanisms for me when I was going through a very challenging time with my marriage and my life. A nine-time NCAA champion for Wisconsin, Favor Hamilton is the namesake of the Big Tens Suzy Favor Athlete of the Year Award, given to the conferences top female athlete. 49ERS Niners defensive coordinator Vic Fangio disagreed with the call, but he under(Continued from page 1B) stands that its part of the and turning to make a catch NFLs safety-first approach in the third quarter of San to protect defenseless Franciscos 41-34 victory in receivers. Prostitution is legal in most rural counties in Nevada, but is illegal in Las Vegas and Reno. A Las Vegas police spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a message about whether the department was investigating. Telephone numbers for the escort service Hamilton said she worked for were not in service and attempts to reach a company representative by email were not immediately successful. Favor Hamilton is a three-time outdoor 1,500-meter national champion and a three-time indoor national champion her last title coming in 1999. As crazy as I know it seems, I never thought I would be exposed, therefore never hurting anybody, she said in one Twitter post. In another, she says she is seeking psychological care for her problem. Goldson believes the style is a big reason why the 49ers are tied with the Seahawks for the best scoring defense in the league, allowing only 15.6 points per game. On the next play against the Patriots, for instance, Hernandez looked timid and had a pass from Tom Brady pop off his hands that Aldon Smith scooped up for an interception. Hits like that get wide receivers the short hands, Goldson said. Its been proven throughout this league for years, and its been proven since me and Donte (Whitner) have been back there making hits and our whole defense. ALAMEDA (AP) After spending most of the season on the bench, Terrelle Pryor has been playing a key role this week for the Oakland Raiders by impersonating Cam Newton in practice. Pryor could have an even higher-profile role come game time Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp says Pryor will get on the field in certain specialty packages for the Raiders (410). Pryor made his season debut last week, handing the ball off twice and throwing one incomplete pass as the coaching staff wanted to give him an entire series. The next step is using him in specific situations that can take advantage of his athleticism at quarterback. Youll see him a little bit on third downs, youll see him maybe in the red zone, try to create a different look for the defense to contend with, Knapp said. It wont be so much the structure of last week, where he had a series, which we thought was fair to him. ... Were going to try to use some of his athletic ability this week. With more and more teams turning to dualthreat quarterbacks like Newton, Washingtons Robert Griffin III or San Franciscos Colin Kaepernick, Pryors athleticism has been tantalizing for Raiders fans looking for any kind of bright spot to a disappointing season. As a star at Ohio State, Pryor showed many of the same skills those other young quarterbacks are displaying. He just wants the opportunity to prove he can do what theyre doing in the NFL. Right now I dont want to compare myself to Kaepernick or Cam or any of those guys because them guys and NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE Pacific W L L.A. While the risk of injury is no different now than it was then, Currys confidence has helped put everybody around him at ease. Every day that goes by and nothing transpires, I feel better, Myers said. Curry is averaging careerhighs of 19.9 points and 6.3 assists per game. He has started all 26 contests and is making a strong case, along with co-captain David Lee, to be Golden States first AllStar since Latrell Sprewell in 1997. All this after Curry averaged career lows of 14.7 points, 5.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds while missing 40 games during last seasons lockout-shortened 66-game schedule, repeatedly spraining, tweaking or rolling his right ankle. Curry rehabbed in Charlotte for weeks. Finally, in April, he had what the team called an exploratory procedure that revealed a stable ankle with no structural sively and defensively. Hes a great leader on the floor and a great teammate off the court. He provides a lot more than just hitting a jump shot. This year I can honestly say I feel like its behind him. Now 24 years old, the son of former NBA player Dell Curry has more support than the elaborate brace that covers both sides of his right ankle. Curry has the security of a long-term contract to take care of his wife, Ayesha, and the couples 5-monthold daughter, Riley. Curry is no longer the dynasty baby from college, as Smart playfully referred to him. He has built muscle from extended upper-body training and learned more about the game from all the video he watched while he couldnt play. Jackson calls him an elite defender, crediting Curry for Golden States sudden and surprising defensive turnaround. The Warriors are sixth in opponents field-goal percentage (43.6 percent) and fourth in the league in rebounding (45.5) per game. He loves basketball. The spark Curry has given Golden State comes even while new center Andrew Bogut remains out indefinitely while recovering from microfracture surgery on his left ankle. Bogut came over in a trade-deadline deal last season that sent fan favorite and combo guard Monta Ellis to Milwaukee, paving the way for Curry to take the Warriors reins. With Bogut out, Ellis departure at least appears to have been addition by subtraction. Curry had four straight games of at least 20 points and 10 assists, the longest streak by a Warriors player since Hardaway in that 1992 season. The teams 6-1 road trip, which included a win at defending champion Miami, also was the most wins on any trip in franchise history. Everybody keeps saying, Why? Former Warriors head coach and longtime assistant Keith Smart, in his second season at the helm in Sacramento, shakes his head when he recalls Currys ankle issues. It was frustrating for him. It was frustrating for us, because he wanted to try every single time. I mean, the guy would walk across the floor and roll his ankle, Smart said. Thats how loose that thing was. And he would try to still practice through it. You would tell him, Dont do it. You would do all the things you could to keep him off the floor, but he wanted to do it. He wanted to play. Hes not one of those guys who have earned his position in the NBA earned the great salary now and feels that, Hey, I can just wait and heal up and let this thing do its Griffin have proved it, he said. I havent proved anything. I cant really say Id be like them. I dont know what Im going to be like because I havent even played yet. Pryor is using those skills right now on the scout team to help the Raiders prepare for Newton. Oakland has struggled most of the season defensively and now has to deal with a new kind of challenge. A running quarterback like Newton can beat teams with his arm, as a scrambler or on designed runs out of the read-option. He creates a lot of other issues that you have to worry about, coach Dennis Allen said. You have to worry about him in the passing game just scrambling around and keeping the play alive. Obviously, they use him in a lot of different ways in the running game also. He presents some unique challenges. In a league with more and more running threats at quarterback, Newton still is one of the most dangerous. He leads Carolina with 647 yards rushing and is averaging 6 yards per carry trailing only Griffin for most by a quarterback. He leads all quarterbacks with seven touchdowns rushing more than twice as many as Oaklands team total of three and has rushed for 1,353 yards and 21 touchdowns in two seasons in the NFL. 5 20 .200 13 Northwest W L Pct GB Oklahoma City 21 5 .808 Minnesota 13 11 .542 7 Denver 14 12 .538 7 Utah 14 13 .519 7.5 Portland 11 12 .478 8.5 EASTERN CONFERENCE Atlantic W L Pct GB New York 19 6 .760 Brooklyn 13 12 .520 6 Boston 13 12 .520 6 Philadelphia 12 14 .462 7.5 Toronto 8 19 .296 12 Central W L Pct GB Chicago 14 10 .583 Milwaukee 13 11 .542 1 Indiana 14 12 .538 1 Detroit 7 21 .250 9 Cleveland 5 22 .185 10.5 Southeast W L Miami Pct GB 16 6 .727 Atlanta 15 8 .652 1.5 Orlando 12 13 .480 5.5 Charlotte 7 18 .280 10.5 Washington 3 20 .130 13.5 Thursdays results Minnesota 99, Oklahoma City 93 Miami at Dallas, late Denver at Portland, late Todays games Atlanta at Philadelphia, 4 p.m. Orlando at Toronto, 4 p.m. Milwaukee at Boston, 4:30 p.m. Chicago at New York, 4:30 p.m. Indiana at Cleveland, 4:30 p.m. Washington at Detroit, 4:30 p.m. Dallas at Memphis, 5 p.m. New Orleans at San Antonio, 5:30 p.m. Charlotte at Golden State, 7:30 p.m. Sacramento at L.A.
