His rendition of ���Corre, No te detengas,��� a song written by Vicky Cabrera, was chosen as the official sports anthem of the network for its coverage of the 2013 Liga MX, Mexico���s top-flight soccer league. Mu��oz was one of four contestants chosen throughout the nation to compete online for the honor. After the online votes were tallied, Mu��oz had earned one of the two spots to perform live on the sports show Republica Deportiva. The television station then flew Mu��oz, Cabrera and his aunt, Maria, out for an all expenses paid trip to Miami. Mu��oz performed live with Cabrera, and then viewers voted for their favorite anthem. Mu��oz even gave a shout out to his town of Gerber live on television. ���My town of Gerber was with me in Miami and it is a victory for everyone who supported me,��� said Mu��oz, who is planning a performance at Red Bluff���s State Theatre in 2013. Mu��oz said he wanted to thank the community, his family, friends, and fans for their support following an article in the Daily News about the online voting process. A Gerber Elementary and Red Bluff High School graduate, Mu��oz DN Staff Writer Several homes in the Corning and Paskenta area went dark Thursday morning when a regulator at PG&E���s Corning substation, at 393 Houghton Ave., failed at 7:35 a.m. Scanner reports just before 8 a.m. indicated an explosion and lots of black smoke in the Corning area near Colusa Street and Houghton Avenue. At the same time, Corning Fire received reports of a blown transformer in the area of Houghton and Tehama Street. Voters can drop off their ballots at the end of Pine Street near the Tehama County Library Red Bluff Branch at 645 Madison St. This box is maintained by the Elections Department and allows voters to drive up and drop their ballots in the secure Vote-By-Mail Drop Box without fighting for a parking space, paying for postage or visiting a polling location on Election Day. In addition to the Vote-By-Mail Drop Box, voters can check the status of returned Vote-ByMail ballots by logging on to the Tehama County website at www.co.tehama.ca.us and clicking on the Elections Department page, where a Vote-By-Mail Status link can be found. Voters then need to enter their date of birth and either the last four digits of a driver���s license number or Social Security number. After the killing of 20 young children and six faculty members at a school in Connecticut Friday, it���s been reported that some strong gun-rights advocates in Congress are now saying they might support certain new gun restrictions. Wally Herger, R-Chico, See GUN, page 9A Outgoing supes thank county workers By RICH GREENE DN Staff Writer Gregg Avilla and Ron Warner served their last full Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, taking the opportunity to thank all of the employees they worked with. Both men were first elected to the position in 2004. Each served three terms. Avilla did not run for re-election in June citing health concerns. ���Everything comes to an end at some point in time,��� he said Tuesday. Avilla is being replaced on the board by Steve Chamblin, who won the election for District 1 that covers northwestern Tehama County including north Red Bluff. Avilla spent around 30 years as an educator, both with Red Bluff and Corning high schools. He was appointed to the Red Bluff City Council in 2002 and won election to the seat the same year. ���What I���ll miss about this is the people,��� he said. Warner lost a re-election bid to former Supervisor Burt Bundy, who served on the board from 1981-1993. The District 5 position covers Los Molinos, Tehama and the east side of Corning. Before becoming a supervisor, Warner spent 10 years as Tehama���s mayor, where he was also a councilman.
