Air Quality Poster Contest Winners Recognized Poster Contest, which was open to Cumberland County and Fort Bragg The theme was Improving Air Quality Around Schools. The student entries were divided into two groups: Kindergarten group, there were three winners. The top six posters and students from each age group will be featured in next year’s Air Quality Calendar. The contest winners were announced and awarded their prizes during the Dogwood Festival. Fayetteville City Councilman Keith Bates and Cumberland County Commissioners Kenneth Edge and Phillip Gilfus were on hand to help present the awards. A ir Quality Awareness Week runs May 2-8 and is timed to coincide with the beginning of the Ozone season. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Sustainable Sandhills also sponsored this year’s contest. Jon Parsons, Executive Director of Sustainable Sandhills, quizzed some eager volunteers from the audience on air quality. Based on their own knowledge of air quality, the poster contest winners were able to whisper answers to assist the volunteers. This one-day, one-stop event will offer services to the homeless. Local agencies will provide information and applications for housing, employment services, health services, and more. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Good Health Is Not Just For The Young The Adult Services Division of the Department of Social Services is sponsoring the 6th Annual Senior Health Fair on May 19 at the Smith Recreation Center, 1520 Slater Avenue. The hours will be from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. This celebration of good health is open to the public and is designed to honor senior citizens during May’s “Older American Month.” Free refreshments and door prizes will be presented during the event. More than 30 participating vendors will provide blood pressure checks, promotional materials and an abundance of health-related educa- tional materials.
