Returning from last year's show, host John Stamos presides over "A Capitol Fourth" Wednes- day, July 4, as PBS presents the annual event from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. (check local listings). Also back are the Beach Boys, with whom Stamos performs often, and who will re- ceive a National Artistic Achievement Award from him for their enduring career. Also slated to perform: Jimmy Buffett and the Broadway cast of the stage show inspired by his tunes, "Escape to Margaritaville"; the a cap- pella group Pentatonix; soul's iconic The Temp- tations; country music's Lauren Alaina and Luke Combs, who are touring with Jason Aldean this summer; gospel legend CeCe Winans; opera ti- tan Renee Fleming; and violinist Joshua Bell. Jack Everly again will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra, with their rendi- tion of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture as the 90-min- ute program's traditional closer. Hosting "A Capitol Fourth" again is part of a big year for "Full House" and "ER" alum Stamos, who recently got married and welcomed his first child. "Last year, it was kind of a last-minute thing, and I jumped in because I knew The Beach Boys were going to be there," he says of the special. "You would obviously think that being in D.C. on the Fourth of July would make you feel especially patriotic and proud to be an American. The feelings were way above anything I thought I would feel, though." With parenthood very much on his mind this year, Stamos also hopes to mention again what America means to those who emigrate from other countries, as with his own Greek ancestors. The ac- tor notes he was "grateful" to express that on last year's show "because it was sort of a hot-button topic at that moment. (The producers) were very ac- commodating."
