T his has been a wonderful year of new beginnings and we're excited to see the leading of the Lord as we are planning for the next year. As we constantly strive to improve the program, we are prioritizing the desire to provide a college counselor for our students at Maranatha Christian Academy. The counselor will be dedicated to helping students of all ages prepare for and reach their academic aspirations both here at MCA and beyond in their collegiate life! MCA CREATES NEW COLLEGE COUNSELOR POSITION We are very pleased to announce that Mr. Dave Keener will be taking on the role of college counselor as of this coming school year. Mr. Keener has been faithfully serving at Maranatha Christian Academy for 11 years. He is currently our dean of students and athletic director. For next school year, he will be Maranatha's college counselor and dean of students. We are looking forward to the wonderful ways Mr. Keener will be able to assist our students as they pursue their academic goals and college aspirations. Mr. Keener is an excellent counselor and he is excited to step into this new role to broaden the resources and assistance for our students. Dave has been involved in Christian education for 39 years, 11 of those years at Maranatha Christian Academy. God has taken him and his family on an incredible journey during those years. Dave and his wife, Jana, have three grown children, all of whom attended Christian schools. All of his children are now married and in their careers and following God. Dave and Jana also have four grandchildren. For both Dave and Jana, Christian education is important in raising the next generation of world changers for Christ, through whatever vocation God calls students. COACH BURDETTE NAMED ATHLETIC DIRECTOR We are excited to announce that Mr. Bryan Burdette (MCA teacher, head varsity football coach, and assistant varsity baseball coach) will be taking on a new role for the 2018- 19 school year. Mr. Burdette will be Maranatha's athletic director, while continuing to coach the Eagles and teach classes. "I think that God is in everything around us, and that life is a continual opportunity for us to build a testimony of God's presence and power in our lives. I believe our lives are our opportunity to show those around us that God is bigger and better than anything the world has to offer us. The only way to genuinely be fulfilled in life is to give to others what God has so graciously given us." Coach Burdette is very excited for this new opportunity as MCA athletic director. Athletics have always been a big part of his life. Whether playing as a youth, high school or college athlete, or coaching, he has always felt that the lessons learned during athletic practices and/or competitions are unequaled anywhere else in the scholastic experience. "Athletics gives us an opportunity to practice and sharpen the ideals and values that we desire for the foundations of our character. Athletics are not the most important things we will do in our lives, but they help us become better at the most important things that we will do in our lives." Other exciting updates for the 2018-19 school year: • Addition of two dual-credit courses (bringing the total number of college credit hours an MCA student can earn to 36 hours). Public speaking and philosophy will both be added to our college-preparatory course catalog. • Driver's education classes (quarterly, zero hour) to be taught at MCA. There is an additional cost. • New science and social science curriculum for the elementary school.
