Rutherford Weekly Sudoku Answers Today Isothermal Community College announced a three-year, $300,000 gift from the Houston-based The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation to help train students for rewarding careers in high-demand industries facing the region, including welding, nursing, agribusiness and industrial technology positions. The gift will be used toward scholarships to fund textbooks, equipment and supplies needed in technical programs as well as scholarships for middle and high-school students attending engineering summer camps at Isothermal Community College. The gift will also aid in funding the college's 2019 Science Expo. "In some of our technical programs, the cost of supplies and materials approaches the cost of tuition, so having these funds available will remove a signifi cant barrier that students face when enrolling in one of these programs," said. "The students who graduate from these programs go straight into the workforce with high- paying, in-demand jobs that are making a big impact in our community." – Walter Dalton, President Isothermal Community College "For nearly thirty years, Janice and Bob McNair have been instrumental in positively impacting the lives of thousands of students in Rutherford County, so we are incredibly grateful for their continued investment in students. They believe in a hand up, not a hand out, and it's paying great dividends in our region." – Dr. Janet Mason, Superintendent Rutherford County Schools "It is wonderful that a person who grew up in rural Rutherford County, N.C., continues to help with the growth and development of this area and to share his blessings with it. I've thought this so many times about Bob McNair." – Leonard Hollifi eld, chairman of the Isothermal Community College Board of Trustees Isothermal Community College, a member of the North Carolina Community College System, is a comprehensive, two-year, public institution that serves the individuals in Rutherford and Polk counties. The Robert & Janice McNair Foundation Gives $300,000 to Workforce Programs Article Provided By: Mike Gavin Friday, June 8, Mr. Brad Keever received a surprise recognition as the 2017-18 school year drew to a close. Keever, a language arts and math teacher in the Exceptional C h i l d r e n program at R-S Middle School, was p r e s e n t e d the Layman of the Year Award. The Layman Award is p r e s e n t e d annually to one teacher in the Rutherfordton-Spindale District in recognition of his or her outstanding contribution in classrooms, schools, and the lives of students. Each R-S District school nominates one teacher who exemplifi es exceptional skill in and dedication to the art of teaching, has the ability to inspire a love of learning, uses resources at hand effectively and effi ciently, and is driven to stay abreast of developments in the profession, among other traits. An anonymous donor with wishes to honor the R-S District makes this annual award possible. Mr. Keever has taught and coached at R-S Middle for eight years. While he currently teaches language arts and math in the Exceptional Children program, Mr. Keever is also licensed to teach science. Additionally, he serves as the head coach of the wrestling team and the assistant coach of both the basketball and track teams. His wholehearted investment in R-S Middle and the success of students there is undeniable. Congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition, R-S Middle Principal Keith Silver observed, "Mr. Keever has the ability to work with students of every ability range and prepare them for their future. Mr. Keever's classroom is a place where children learn, laugh, and smile. It is a place where everyone is important, everyone is equal, and learning is the focus." RCSNC is grateful for Brad Keever's dedication to students and proud to present him with the 2018 Layman Award. Rutherford County Schools (RCSNC) is the comprehensive public school system of Rutherford County, North Carolina.
