W elcome to the 32nd annual North Carolina Pickle Festival. I am DILLighted that you chose to attend Oktpicklefest, a celebration of agriculture in our historic community. Each year, we chose a fun theme to represent our festival and this year, we chose a German one. Did you know that the pickle ornament is very special to Germany families? After they decorate their trees, parents hide the pickle ornament among the boughs. When the children see the decorated tree for the first time, they hunt for the hidden ornament. The child who finds the pickle ornament will receive an extra gift from St. Nicholas. Well, we hide a jar of Mt. Olive pickles at the North Carolina Pickle Festival. Pick up a set of clues from the information booth and find the specially labeled jar. When you find it, turn it into the information booth and collect your extra gift — Mt. Olive Pickle Co. pickle pack and a N.C. Pickle Festival T-shirt or hat. Speaking of pickles, you can eat FREE Mt. Olive pickles all day long. Plus, try other pickle foods — pickle snow cones, deep-fried pickles, pickle popcorn and other pickle peanuts. Just follow the Pickle Trail to find all of these yummy foods and other pickle activities. The German word for a lot is VIEL. We have VIEL of activities, including 5K Cuke Patch Glow Run, Tour de Pickle bike ride, Predict the Pickle Pass Through, Pickle Packing Production Challenge, Pickle Brine magic show and the Pickle Derby. There is also a classic car show, vintage tractors, clowns, Circus Stella, pony rides, camel rides, carnival rides, petting zoo and so much more. If you check out the Oktpicklefest logo, you will see danc- ing pickles. That's because we have four stages that provide free entertainment all day long. Be sure to catch one of the bands, a group of dancers or one of the praise stage enter- tainers. On the Bridge Stage, we have special entertainment, including the One-Man Band. When you leave the 32nd annual North Carolina Pickle Festival, I hope you RELISHed your visit and said, "Das ist gut (that was good)." Auf Wiedersehen (good bye) and Danke (thank you) for attending our DILLightful event. See you in 2019. DILLightgfully Yours, Julie R. Beck, CO-CHAIRPERSON NORTH CAROLINA PICKLE FESTIVAL Wednesday, April 25, 2018 Mount Olive Messenger— 3 (THAT'S GERMAN FOR HELLO) GLUTEN TAG
