GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS News Spring 2018 Sigma Gamma Phi and Phi Gamma Delta after the Rock Chalk Revue award show. S igma Chapter's newly elected offi- cers and their assistants returned from winter break to attend an officer leadership retreat. They were joined for dinner by a group of alumnae who had agreed to serve as advisers and mentors for chapter members. With the chapter size continuing to grow, the additional alumnae have been an important sup- port for individual officers, according to adviser Sally Ramseyer Beck '74, who matched the alumnae with officers in their areas of interest, "Since we have more volunteers, the time commitment for each adviser has decreased, giving more alum- nae the opportunity to be involved with the chapter in an area they enjoy." Lindsey Rhoton Ingram '01 is the adviser for the PACE chairwoman, help- ing identify topics that are of special interest to chapter members and assist- ing in finding speakers in those areas. "I am thrilled to be working with such passionate and smart women!" Lindsey said when asked about what she enjoys about her position. Lindsey attends the monthly PACE chapter meetings, while other mentors are keeping in touch with their officers remotely through emails, texts, and phone calls. Katie McCurry '99, mentor for the public relations VP, recently left Lawrence to move to Boston for a new job, but continues to keep in touch with her officer. Jill Remsberg McGee '79, standards adviser, uses FaceTime to remotely attend standards committee meetings when she can't be there in person. Suzanne Willey '86, philanthropy adviser, is mentoring the chapter philanthropy chairwoman as she plans chapter events. Sigma alumnae currently working with Gamma Phi officers are: Sally Ramseyer Beck '74, Elizabeth McKemey Bickley '82, Sheri Sigman Coffin '76, Brianne Brown Cook '96, Kayla Cowell '09, Lindsey Rhoton Ingram '01, Lauren Brown Korte '09, Sophie Blackwell Lamb '04, Paige Lueker '13, Whitney Altman Marcellino '98, Allison Friend Mazzei '04, Katie McCurry '99, Jill Remsberg McGee '79, Gabrielle Siegler '11, Alison Digges Staniforth '75, Sara Hernandez Wenke '99, Suzanne Willey '86, and Britny Fix Wood '93. Alumnae Volunteers Support Sigma Chapter Endeavors H ello! My name is Jamie Maddox and I am a junior at the University of Kansas. I am originally from Prairie Village, Kan., and graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 2014. After high school, I participated in the Center for International Education and Exchange (CIEE) gap year program, and spent a year living abroad in Chile and Spain. Once I returned to the United States, I was excited to start my time as a Jayhawk and was so happy to have the opportunity to join Gamma Phi! I come from a long line of KU graduates and have grown up hearing stories about Gamma Phi from my mom, Bonnie Anderson Maddox '88, and my three aunts, Susan Anderson Leonard '91, Jennifer Maddox O'Leary '90, and Christie Bowman Anderson '95, all members of Sigma Chapter! The past three years in Gamma Phi have been a great experience to share with my family and make my time at KU special. Outside of Gamma Phi, I am studying accounting and Spanish and plan to graduate in May 2019. After graduation, I hope to participate in KU's Master of Accounting program with the goal of becoming a CPA. Get to Know Chapter President Jamie Maddox '15
