Since she was a child, education has always been an essential element of Tina's life. "My mother, who did not have access to education as we do today, earnestly advocated the importance of learning, empowering me to do my best in school," noted Tina. "Many of us tend to take education for granted, and I can't say I was never one of them; however, as I grew older, my appreciation and gratitude for education only deepened. Education isn't simply just attending school for so and so years, it is the development of character and ambition." "I genuinely enjoy all aspects of education and relish in the rewarding feeling of simply just knowing," added Tina. "There is no doubt that education is the ultimate key to a fulfilled life. It opens the door to more opportunities, profound relationships and, overall, a better way of living." Boa Ngoc (Tina) T. Dao - Lincoln High School Andrew Elkins, a student at Rogers High School, has been nominated to be an Academic All-Star by school counselor Tracy Mitchell. "Andrew is one of the most hard-working and high-achieving students I have ever worked with," noted Mitchell. "Of course I am impressed by how intelligent he is, but I am more impressed by his passion and dedication to all of his pursuits." Andrew has achieved a 4.3 weighted GPA and an ACT score of 34. He has applied to Columbia University and Wake Forest University with plans to attend Univer- sity of Arkansas Honors Fellow studying Sociology or International Relations. "He is particularly passionate about politics and I have no doubt that I will be helping to vote him into public office in the future," added Mitchell. Andrew has taken a wide range of advanced coursework including AP World History, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, AP Music Theory, AP Language and Compo- sition, AP U.S. Government, AP Chemistry, AP Comparative Government, AP Physics I, AP Calculus BC, and AP Human Geography. He is a recipient of Univer- sity of Arkansas Honors College Fellowship and the Chamber of Commerce award for GPA greater than 3.5. In addition to these honors, he is also a member of All-State Orchestra (violin), All-Region Orchestra (violin), and is nationally ranked in yearbook assessment. Andrew is President of RHS Young Democrats, President/Concertmaster of RHS Sinfonia Orchestra, a member of RHS National Honor Society, and team member at Chick-Fil-A. "Rogers High School has provided me multiple opportunities to branch out as a student and seek activities that will get me involved that I am really interested in," stated Andrew. "For the longest time, I was convinced that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but after taking AP Government and Politics at RHS and getting involved with the Young Democrats, I realized that I had a passion for the social sciences." This realization helped lead Andrew to pursue service opportunities with local activist groups as well as study at two programs over the summer in the fields of social science and politics, law, and economics. "I realized that I had a passion for helping those who are marginalized," added Andrew. "I was able to achieve this all because of my time as a student at Rogers High School, and I owe a lot to my teachers who helped me along the way."
