Ty Olsen, a student at Rogers Heritage High School, has been nominated to be an Academic All-Star by high school counselor, Kristin Collins. "Ty is a compas- sionate leader," noted Collins. "He is focused, generous, and determined to help others. Ty is a gifted athlete and meticulous scholar." In fact, Ty has a weighted GPA of 4.2 and an ACT score of 31. He has applied and plans on attending Univer- sity of Arkansas with a double major in Cultural Anthropology and Spanish, with a minor in music. Ty has taken extensive advanced coursework including AP World History, AP Physics, AP Music Theory, AP Language and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, and AP English Literature. "He plans to study Anthropology and Spanish in order to work closely with countries and communities that are in need," added Collins. Ty has served his community and school in various ways including worship leading at Fellowship Bible Church (2014-2018), National Honor Society Secretary (2016-2018), Inter- national Service Projects to Mexico, Haiti and Costa Rica, Youth Group leading at Fellowship Bible Church (2015-2018), and Future Business Leaders of America (2016-2018). In addition to this service, he has received many awards and honors including Pinnacle Hills/Shadow Valley "Moments of Integrity Award" (2017), two time All-Conference Basketball Player (2016 and 2018), third chair All-Region Choir (2017), three time Academy Award Winner (2015-2018), and three time Chamber of Commerce Award winner (2015-2018). "Among many impactful things in one's life is their own personal attributes that enables them to go and pursue their hopes and dreams," stated Ty. "In my case, I can say with absolute certainty that what has set me apart and enabled me to achieve high academic and athletic success is my work ethic." Hard work has been a constant in Ty's life. "In my own life, a hard work ethic was instilled in me from a very young age, by my parents and my family," added Ty. I can say that there has never been a time, academically or athletically, where I have given less than the full extent of my ability." Ty Olsen - Rogers Heritage High School Spencer Loper, a student at Shiloh Christian School in Springdale, has been nominated to be an Academic All-Star by college/career counselor, Debbie Diehm. "Spencer has the highest ACT score in his class (35) and will graduate as an iThink Scholar – a select group that takes all college classes the junior and senior years," noted Diehm. "He has been chosen as a University of Arkansas Honors College Fellow and will speak at graduation, as he also has the high- est GPA." Spencer has a weighted GPA of 4.27. He has applied to University of Arkansas, Georgia Institute of Technol- ogy, and MIT. He plans on attending University of Arkansas with a major in Engineering and Mathematics. Spencer has taken extensive advanced coursework including AP World History, AP U.S. History, College American Government, College Physics I, College Physics II, College Chemistry I, College Algebra, College Trigonometry, AP Calcu- lus BC, Multivariable Calculus, College Composition I, College Composition II, College World Literature I, College World Literature II, and College Public Speak- ing. Spencer has won many awards and honors including Arkansas Honors College Fellow (12), iThink Scholar (took all college courses offered), highest average grade in AP Calculus BC (11), Varsity Football Academic Award (9, 10), and highest average grade College Composition I and II (11). In addition to these honors, Spencer has actively served his school and community including Fellowship Bible Church small group leader, "Stirn" student intern at Fellowship Bible Church, Varsity football (9, 10), Varsity golf — two state championships (11, 12), and being a self-employed tutor. "As far as I can remember, I have had a hunger for knowledge," acknowledged Spencer. "In pre-school and elementary school I would always bug my older brother about what he was learning and question my mom with any curiosities I had." This curiosity paid off in middle school for Spencer — from sixth to seventh grade, he was able to skip two grades in math. Spencer has been fortunate to travel to Memphis, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador on various mission trips. "One thing that really struck me this last trip to Ecuador was how much I had taken for granted the educational opportunities I have," stated Spencer. "From these experiences, I have realized how fortunate I am to even have the opportunity of education, and, therefore, I want to do the best I possibly can." 4 Tires for $ 90 Home of the $ 25 Tire Congratulations to the 2018 Academic All Star Allie Katherine Bowman.
