And here I was expecting to escape this
issue with, as is usual, the only picture
of me being the one that's on this page.
But photographer Matthew Wonderly
had to go and take a picture of me
trying to ride a battery-powered
unicycle made by a fascinating
Fayetteville entrepreneur named Eric
Nkusi, who's the subject of one of
the stories in this issue. And ace art
director Annette Winter had to go and
use it with the story. Nkusi's machines
are cool and he rides the unicycle like
a dream. Me? Not. So. Much. In my
defense, it was my first time.

is also a soldier. e Black Daggers are
an elite Special Operations parachute
demonstration team. Artist Trish
Brownlee is a veteran whose work oen
focuses on military-related stories. And
Reveille Retreat, a stunning property
with a well-known back story, is a
nonprofit home for homeless women
veterans and their children.
