INDIANA SIGMA SETTING HIGH GOALS FOR RECRUITMENT AND ACADEMICS Brotherhood and Philanthropic Events Will Bolster Chapter Success E xciting things have been happening over the last year for Indiana Sigma. This spring, we gained four new members, bringing our total for the year to 33 young men. As for our fall semes- ter, it was quite successful largely in part to our fall recruitment class. In addition, our Chapter earned a 3.07 cumulative GPA, the highest GPA this Chapter has seen in years. Right now, our main goal is recruiting more guys so we are able to fill the house and meet F&H requirements. The Chapter has also hosted many brotherhood events to strengthen the bond within our Chap- ter, and they seem to be working. For fall 2018 recruitment, we plan to initiate a minimum of 40 new members, which will be the largest recruiting class that I can recall. We plan to improve our 3.07 GPA from last semes- ter, and we hope to become the top fraternity on campus in regards to academics. Our scholarship chairman devised an intense plan to help those members who are below the cusp for GPA re- quirements. Those members are following the plan very well, proving the plan's effectiveness. We have several philanthropic events coming up in the final weeks of the semester. These events include raising money and participating in a food drive for a halfway house, doing an event on campus with puppies to raise money for the hu- mane society, and participating in our universi- ty's dance marathon, which raises money for Ri- ley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. We also have multiple service events planned, including highway cleanups and an event with Tree's Inc., which helps a not-for-profit organization in Terre Haute plant new trees in community parks. I am pleased with the job our service and philanthro- py chairman has done throughout the year. This semester has been spent focusing on ourselves in an effort to improve the culture and brotherhood within the Chapter, and I think taking time to do so will help us immensely in the future. We have hosted a couple big events thus far this semester. During the first week of March, we ran a successful alumni dinner. It was great to see alumni, of whom donated money to build our house and helped created the Chapter we have today, be able to have dinner with us and hear their stories. Our chef prepared a wonder- ful steak dinner for the event, and we hope to start doing a dinner like this once a semester. We also hosted our annual Grilled Cheese with the SAE's philanthropic event at our house. It was an all-you-can-eat grilled cheese and to- mato soup event, and it raised money for the Blue Line Foundation. The Blue Line Founda- tion supports families of fallen officers; it is a very good cause, and we enjoy helping them out in any way possible. We had an extremely good turnout for the event, and we ended up raising a total of $728. Back in the fall, we also operated a haunted house. We spent three days transform- ing the house, and we had an awesome turnout of Indiana State students and from families in the community as well. This event was extremely fun for all the brothers, as everyone dressed up and got into character very well. This event ben- efited a foundation in Terre Haute that helps kids who live in unideal households. We raised more than $500 from this event and were able to give a local child the Christmas of his dreams. I am very excited for what Indiana Sigma has in store not only for the rest of the school year but into the future. I want to thank you, our support- ive alumni, because without your help, none of this would be possible.
