24 www.thejewelrybook.com Piaget While Swiss-born Chabi Nouri was not the fi rst woman CEO of a Richemont brand, she was the fi rst to helm a watch and jewelry brand under the Richemont umbrella. Nouri took over the position in April of 2017 from Philippe Leopold-Metzger – a 36-year Richemont vet- eran – after working in various positions with Richemont including the 10 years she spent at Cartier. Her primary focus once taking over the brand was to put emphasis back on Piaget's high jewelry line while not taking away from its record-breaking impact on the watch world. Harry Winston While the position of CEO of Harry Winston has been fi lled by Nayla Hayek since 2013, fi ve years seems like a blink of an eye when it comes to women in any major leadership position in the watch industry. However, it has been Ms. Hayek's foresight to change the thinking about Harry Winston – a company known prior for being mainly a luxury jewelry house – which gave the brand its current status as it pertains to complicated and mechanical timepieces for both men and women. Laurent Ferrier While independent watch brand Laurent Ferrier isn't exactly a name that is on every retailer's lips, those who know their quality Swiss timepieces and who do their research on the best watch- makers in the industry know not only the name of the brand, but also of its CEO since the year 2014: Vanessa Monestel. Ms. Monestel joined the then three-year-old brand in 2013 as a devel- opment manager after receiving an MBA at IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland before being promoted to the brand's CEO. With women like these leading the way and with companies accepting the fact that they need to structure their leadership in a more gender- friendly manner, it's almost guaranteed that we'll see more women CEOs and presidents of not only watch brands, but also of substantial jewelry brands in the not-too-distant future.
