Anthony Halfacre, M.D. Tiffany Blankenship is the second top individual fundraiser By Sarah Haney NWA Democrat-Gazette Tiffany Blankenship has been involved with Race for the Cure for a considerable amount of time. "This will be my 20th race for the cure," stated Blankenship. "My cousin had lost her battle with cancer and it was just our family's way of honoring her." For many years, Blankenship participated in honor of her cousin, and still does. However, in November of 2014 it became very personal for her – she was diagnosed with breast cancer. "When you get diagnosed it is very scary," noted Blankenship. "The company I work for, Kent International, has the license for Susan G. Komen bicycles. So, for every bike that a retailer buys, they donate $10 back to Susan G. Komen. When I told my boss about my diagnosis, he reached out to Susan G. Komen, who then in turn had the local affiliate reach out to me." The Ozark affiliate of Susan G. Komen proved to be very resourceful to Blankenship. "For me, it was a sounding board," added Blankenship. "It was a place to go to find out what's next, where to go, where to look for certain things or answer questions. There are amazing individuals at the Ozark affiliate. Since then, I've challenged myself on the fundraising side of things." In fact, Blankenship is the second top individual fundraiser for the year, having raised $8,238. "I've met several ladies, and one man, through this journey who have also been diagnosed with breast cancer," said Blankenship. "Some of them end up being friends. Some of them are strangers that come to me and say, 'Hey, can we talk?' I just remember that day and everything that went through my mind. Anything that I can do to help, I will." Kent International will be giving away 25 Susan G. Komen bikes and helmets at Ozark Race for the Cure. This will be their second year donating the bikes. The bikes are also sold at Walmart, walmart.com, and amazon.com. When giving advice and words of encouragement to somebody recently diagnosed, Blankenship summed it up best with, "Hope is stronger than fear." NWA Democrat-Gazette/BEN GOFF @NWABENGOFF Tiffany Blankenship, a vice president with Kent International Bicycles, talks about the company's drawing for 20 free Komen bicycles during the survivor parade Saturday, April 22, 2017, during the annual Susan G.
