As one of the longest running festivals in the area, MayFest has grown into one of the premier weekend destinations for locals and visitors alike. Artists and craftsmen proudly display their unique and one of a kind merchandise while live music, flavorful scents and children's laughter fill the air. Activities for all ages provide entertainment and fun filled moments for everyone. Too much to be contained in just one day, MayFest officially begins Friday evening, May 4th, with a 1.25 mile double loop obstacle course featuring a variety of challenges for all ages and abilities. Your participation in this event will benefit PATH and the first 200 entrants will receive a t-shirt at check-in. Afterwards, local restaurants will be offering drink and dinner specials and live music will be radiate from the courthouse lawn. Early Saturday morning, cyclists will pedal off into one of three different distance courses for a 2-wheeled tour around the county. This event, sponsored by Gears and Gables, will benefit Rutherford Housing Partnership. Wax and shine those cars, trucks and bikes for the auto show. Proceeds from this show will provide support for Hospice and if you're feeling the need for speed, the Boy Scouts are hosting their annual Pinewood Derby Race and Scout Show. The main stage will spring to life again on the courthouse lawn mid-morning with live performers and flamingo dancers headlining this show. Cinco de Mayo celebrations will begin at Mi Pueblito in Rutherfordton with colorful entrees, cool margaritas and creamy desserts. They're spicing things up with door prizes, drink specials and live entertainment to accent their authentic Mexican cuisine and small town friendly service. All day long, in the heart of Rutherfordton, Saturday May 5th, climbing walls, inflatables, balloon artists, face painting, festival food and local craft brews are on tap as MayFest rolls out her very best for festival lovers. So, come on out for 2 Days in May at MayFest; America's PlayFest. Bring your whole family, support your neighbors and celebrate Spring in Downtown Rutherfordton.
