"Typically they sell them in lots of 10, so 10 bucks. Then you can basically sample competition pork and then vote on your winner. Then we do award a champion for that people's choice category just as a little extra for the cook teams that participate." But while barbecue will rule the day, there will be plenty of food and arts and crafts vendors in the BBQ Village. The village encompass- es an area dedicated to the contest located within a two-block radius of the church. The festival and awards stage are located two blocks to the east on West Avenue along the railroad tracks. Awards will be presented Saturday, May 19, at 5 p.m. from the main stage on West Ave- nue. In case of inclement weather, the awards will be held in the Family Life Center of Ayden Christian Church. Individual ride tickets will be sold on May 18. One-price ride wristbands will be sold on Saturday for 25. Some of the proceeds from that sale will be donated to local schools. "They are going to pre-sell and whatever they pre-sell for we are going to give back part of that cost to them," Smith said. "I believe it is $25, but we have not yet quite finalized that yet." The event is named in honor of the two local "Kings of Q", Latham "Bum" Dennis of Bum's Restaurant and the late Pete Jones, founder of Skylight Inn. Both families run successful barbecue restaurants and share family history as being descendants of Skilton Dennis. The Dennis family stakes claim to being the nation's first commercial barbecue establishment dating back to 1830.
