Cowie named Assistant Chief Nursing Officer/Assistant VP of Nursing SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Rebecca Cowie, RN, APRN, ACNS-BC, SCRN, CCRN, recently was named Assistant Chief Nursing Officer/Assistant Vice President of Nursing at Washington Regional Medical Center. Cowie previously was Director of the Stroke Program, Critical Care and Neuro Progressive as well as the Neurosurgical ICU now under construction at the medical center. She joined Washington Regional in 2012 as Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Critical Care Units and was instrumental in the development of the Patient Safety Committee as well as Washington Regional's Stroke Program, which earned Primary Stroke Center certification in 2015. Cowie graduated from nursing programs at Purdue University and the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith before earning a Master of Science in Nursing - Adult Health from Arkansas State University. She has achieved certification as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Stroke Certified Registered Nurse and Critical Care Registered Nurse. McQueen achieves designation as Certified Clinical Research Coordinator SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Callie McQueen, RN, CCRC, a clinical research coordinator at Washington Regional, recently earned certification from the Academy of Clinical Research Professionals. To achieve the designation of Certified Clinical Research Coordinator, McQueen met certain eligibility guidelines and passed a nationally administered exam. McQueen, who graduated from the nursing program at NorthWest Arkansas Community College, joined Washington Regional in 2012. She is a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. Barlow joins Washington Regional as Executive Director of Health Partners SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Kyle Barlow recently joined Washington Regional Medical System as Executive Director of Health Partners, a physician-hospital organization that manages healthcare agreements between providers and payers. Barlow is responsible for all managed care contracting operations at Health Partners, which includes establishing, negotiating and administering contractual agreements. He will also develop and maintain a full complement of physicians, allied health professionals and facilities to provide healthcare services as a part of Health Partners. After graduating from Ouachita Baptist University with a bachelor's degree, Barlow earned three master's degrees: in divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary, in counseling from John Brown University and in health administration from Capella University. He previously was director of contracting for Mercy Arkansas Health Systems. Free, family-friendly event to offer stroke education SPECIAL TO NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Washington Regional Medical Center is partnering with several area agencies to provide education and awareness help end stroke, a leading cause of serious, long-term disability and death. Area residents of all ages are invited to attend a free health event presented by Washington Regional. "Working Together to End Stroke" will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 3, in the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. Those who attend can enjoy free food, games and activities centered around stroke education and awareness. Central EMS will be there with an ambulance that children can explore, and American Heart Association will be there with its friendly costumed mascot, Hearty. There will be health information booths and giveaways. Education and awareness are key to ending stroke, since about 80 percent of strokes are preventable. Washington Regional has developed a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to its Emergency Department, and has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalĀ® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers.
