ΚΣ C lumns Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Missouri University of Science and Technology | Spring 2018 Beta-Chi Inside Welcome, New Members 2 2018 Hall of Fame INductees 3 Alumni News 4 ATTENTION: Please send any contact information updates to Ed Jantosik at ecjjrpeatt@att.net Celebrate 115 Years of Beta-Chi with Your Brothers Hall of Fame Banquet, October 13 A t Homecoming this year, October 12-13, we will celebrate our 115th year of the Beta-Chi Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at MSM/UMR/MST. Several classes will be having reunions, including the infamous '50s group. The main event is the Hall of Fame banquet Saturday night. Please gather some pledge brothers and join us. Fred Neimeier '92, senior VP of Harbour Group, has agreed to be the emcee for the event. We are looking forward to seeing all of you and celebrating Robert Wright '56, Bill Meister '73, Stephen Hoffmann '02, and Grant Mabie '02 as our 2018 inductees. One of the amenities in the new house is the weight room. We had no idea how popular it would be. This year we are planning on expanding the weight room and moving the storage to the outside shed. This will require purchasing a new shed, moving walls, installing a new rubber floor, ceiling, and lighting, and doing some HVAC and electrical work. We will also purchase additional equipment and expect to spend $30,000. Any support you could provide toward this project would be appreciated. Several years ago, we added $5,000 in scholarships to help us recruit the best and the brightest students to pledge Kappa Sigma. This is on top of the $1,000 scholarships we give to freshmen who meet certain academic requirements. Our biggest need is financial aid. Many brothers run across financial hardships, and we just don't have the funds to help them out. We sometimes let them pay us back slowly after graduation, but we need to do more. Many of these cases involve good brothers whose family fell on hard times. The Beta-Chi Educational Foundation is a tax-exempt entity to help us with scholarships and the educational needs of the Fraternity. We would appreciate any help you can give to support the foundation. I hope to see you all at the 115th celebration! We started the fall semester with a recruitment class of 38, which is the largest class at Missouri S&T in recent memory. We have since added seven spring new members and are gearing up for another large class in the fall under the leadership of our recruitment chairman, Connor LeCroix '17. We excelled philanthropically with our Oktoberfest in the fall, raising more than $3,000 for the Military Heroes campaign. This spring we will be holding our 14th annual fish fry with the women of Zeta Tau Alpha, and all the of the money raised will go to the Military Heroes campaign and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. The Greek Week competition in the fall was action packed as Beta-Chi stormed back from an 80-point deficit early in the week to secure our first win in four years. Beta-Chi also par- ticipated in the St. Pat's competition this year and worked hard (Continued on page 2) Beta-Chi after winning Greek Week this Fall.
