page 2 explaining how this "lightbulb moment" has come so far. "It feels great and weird all at the same time. Fifteen years ago I was a Tri Delta doing philanthropy for childhood cancer. Now that same organization is not only helping the cause we're so passionate about, but they are helping my own daughter. It's this coming full- circle thing," Jen says. Rhyan relapsed on Thanksgiving Day in 2016 but has since received treatment and there has been no evidence of disease for a little over a year now. Rhyan still receives her treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City where she is on a trial vaccine to hopefully prevent relapse once and for all. She was able have her port line removed recently. The Mizzou and Columbia community continue to be a consistent sense of support for the Loos family. "It's really indescribable the amount of love and support we have felt and still do feel from this town and university," Jen says. "It's truly a very special, special place." Jen and her family live in Columbia, Mo. She can be reached at bustar12@hotmail.com. If you're interested in donating or learning more about Rally for Rhyan, visit www.rallyforrhyan.org. Delta Xi Recruitment Updates Informal Recruitment Helps Boost Chapter Numbers T here are a couple of trends that we are seeing at Mizzou with recruitment. First, the opportunity to COB (continuous open bidding) and/or informal recruitment has become more the standard in our Panhellenic (PHA) community. This spring, 13 out of the 15 sororities at Mizzou participated in COB, including Tri Delta. Panhellenic, along with Tri Delta's executive office, encourages chapters to participate in COB to promote the overall growth of our sorority. This in turn helps to keep our sorority houses full, especially during this down trend in enrollment—not just at the University of Missouri, but nationwide. During formal recruitment in August at the University of Missouri, potential new members now attend two events on preference day rather than three. Narrowing sorority choices down to just two on the last day of recruitment has been found to statistically benefit the potential new member as well as the sororities. More women are offered bids into sororities compared to the model of preferencing three sororities on the last day of recruitment. Again, this helps to keep our sororities at chapter total across the PHA community. Delta Xi voted last year to update their definition of a legacy. Any potential new member who is a daughter or step-daughter, sister or step-sister, or granddaughter is considered a legacy to Delta Xi. Other Tri Delta affiliations are taken seriously and highly considered. This has been determined with consideration of the large number of women that go through recruitment at Mizzou. The University of Missouri falls within the 10 largest recruitments in the nation.
