THE ZETA PHI PAGE 2 From Small Town Chillicothe to Big-City Businessman The Beta Experiences Contributing to the Success of Mike Wood '77 F irst introduced to Beta Theta Pi through Mike Turner '74, Mike Wood '77 found a piece of his hometown of Chillicothe in Zeta Phi. "Four of us came from a small town and learned to interact with others from Kansas City, St. Louis, and all parts of Missouri." he shared. "The diversity was great and we all shared similar values." After earning his bachelor's in accountancy, Mike went on to work for a trade group in an accounting and management position under their insurance division. He began his career developing an insurance program for commercial feedlots, but it wasn't long before he had larger dreams for his future. Along with some of his colleagues, Mike decided to break away and together they started their own insurance brokerage firm, Cline Wood Agency Inc., specializing in risk management for commercial transportation and agriculture. Mike currently serves as president. Mike recalls his years as an undergraduate with pride, remembering intramurals, attending MU sporting events, and the camaraderie that Zeta Phi offered. Being around other young men with goals and focus helped Mike accomplish his own goals and pursue opportunities. "Many of my Beta brothers were and are great achievers," he said. "They inspired me to work hard and achieve." Mike encourages current undergraduate members to take advantage of their network of brothers, work hard, and look for ways to be entrepreneurial. There's something truly unique about going through the college experience together, and sharing that bond for a lifetime. Mike has kept in touch with many of his brothers over the years, and urges those who haven't to reconnect. "Reach out to your Beta brothers and cherish those friendships and memories," he shared. It's a bond that never truly dies, but rather picks up right where it left off. Mike and his wife, Julie, have a daughter, Courtney, and two sons, Clayton Wood '08 and Connor Wood '12—all of whom graduated from MU. Mike is proud to share his Zeta Phi experience with his sons. They enjoy traveling and socializing as a family, and Mike enjoys taking time to cook and play golf. You can connect with Mike at mikew@clinewood.com.
