MAKING A DIFFERENCE Beta Chi Hosts New Philanthropy Event for Reading Is Fundamental B eta Chi Chapter is excelling on campus, in the classroom, and beyond. Our members are dedicated to serving our chapter, cam- pus, and community. They make a difference everywhere they go. Kappa has provided each of us with lifelong friendships, connections across campus and the state, mentors for succeeding in college, leadership opportunities, and a sis- terhood that each member takes pride in. Beta Chi is committed to making the future of Kappa a place where every member feels at home. We are eagerly anticipating all of the things Beta Chi will accomplish in our new home at 238 East Maxwell next fall. Chapter Implements Academic Points Program Beta Chi has retained a 3.4 GPA, and is currently ranked fifth out of the 15 Panhellenic chapters on our campus. Part of this success is due to the commitment of our academic chairmen. They have implemented a new semester-long academ- ic points program, where our members can turn in academic points, such as an A on an exam. This goes toward a large incentive at the end of the semester, such as a Kate Spade purse. Beta Chi Introduces the Amazing Race for RIF It is exciting to see our chapter's impact on lo- cal schools through Reading Is Fundamental. To support RIF, we created a new event this fall called the Amazing Race. We are looking forward to our popular spring event, Kappa Bowl, on April 15. Last year, Kappa Bowl raised $1,874, allowing our chapter to donate more than 700 books to the students and teachers of Russell Cave Elementary School. We donated $4,000 to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation last semester, as well. Sisters Remain Involved on Campus Our members represent our chapter across cam- pus through their participation and leadership in countless organizations. Kappa has the largest sorority leadership in UK's Student Govern- ment, with five members serving in the legisla- tive branch, five in the executive branch, and one Supreme Court justice. We also had 34 members participate in DanceBlue this year, which is a 24-hour dance marathon to raise money for pe- diatric oncology. Intramurals are another area of our community that are highly anticipated each year, as we have teams in flag football, futsal, and volleyball. We even made it to the semi-fi- nals in basketball last year! Chapter Welcomes 85 New Members Without a chapter house, Beta Chi hosted prima- ry recruitment in the Sigma Chi chapter house. While this was extremely challenging, our chap- ter and council stepped up to the job to recruit an incredible pledge class of 85 new members. I am fully confident our chapter will lead another successful recruitment in fall 2018 with a breath- taking new chapter house. Thank You, Alumnae The involvement and support of our alumnae is critical to the success of our chapter. This past semester, the house cor- poration board hosted a Founder's Day brunch, where 50- and 60-year pins were awarded. Tom Wilmes, architect for the Kappa house expansion, also made a special ap- pearance. I want to extend our full appreciation of your sup- port and investment in Beta Chi. Please know that your input, involvement, and experience is key in continuing to see its success throughout the future. We are all bound to an extraordinary sisterhood that I hope you continue to take part in. We would be thrilled for you to come see our new chapter house this fall.
