What is Prop 401? Will it raise my taxes? How does it affect me? All county residents and visitors are affected by this proposition due to the loss of services provided by the many former county employees and vendors lost to a State-imposed, outdated spending limitation. It would take more space than al- lowed in an editorial to explain Proposition 401 in legal terms, so given this opportunity, I will try to explain in plain language what it is. PROBLEM: Envision having a bud- geted debt of $2,000 per month and you have enough money to pay that $2,000 per month. However, there is an outdated restrictive rule that says you can only spend $1,700 per month. This leaves you unable to pay your debt, although you may have neough money to do so. SOLUTION: Update the rule that re- stricts the amount of money you are allowed to spend, to a suffi ciently higher limit, allowing you to pay all of your current debt. This is what "YES" vote on Proposition will allow La Paz County to do. SUMMARY: La Paz County has grown, and as it grows, it must up- date its spending limit. This a nor- mal process that probably should have occurred sooner. IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE COUNTY TO RAISE TAXES.
