What's one thing you think career
education leaders can do to improve
institutional performance?
Talk less, listen more. I believe when this occurs, effective
change can happen. Sometimes we get used to pushing
out our messages and are so focused on completing our
institutional agendas that we forget the human element:
our students, faculty, and staff. If your student body or
faculty and staff consistently bring the same issues to light
and no change occurs, you risk disconnecting with those
audiences and can see some adverse effects, like lowered
employee morale, student dissatisfaction, and a stagnant
environment. When leaders take the voice of their
constituents into consideration when forging institutional
missions, it creates an environment of inclusivity, respect,
and appreciation. Exceptional institutional performance
will materialize when your base is kept ever-present in
the decision-making process. Seek first to understand and
then to be understood.
CHEP Certification
The CHEP certification
recognizes employees of
career schools, colleges
and universities who strive

respective positions, with
the ultimate goal of enabling
institutions to develop high-
performing, compliant, and
ethical employees to better
serve students. CHEPs have
successfully completed forty-
eight hours of approved training
in their area of concentration
and are required to complete
eight hours of approved training
annually to maintain their
certification.
