She was, she admitted, a "little" excited when she won the honor. "I squealed with delight," the owner of Dogwood Digital Designs, a local web site design company, said. "For me it was really exciting because I've been a part of the Dogwood Festival and have been going to it my whole life. It's really exciting for me to win." Renee entered the competition as a citizen of Siloam Springs, not as a business owner. She opened her business after returning to her hometown. Following college and a spell living in Texas, she came back home to raise her son in Siloam Springs. Renee drew inspiration from the trees, after which the festival is named. "I just started with the dogwood theme," she explained. "I wanted to make sure dogwoods were a part of the design. Rather than just having them float randomly around, I wanted them to have a limb. While playing with the placement of the flowers, the limb just kind of ended up being this swoosh of a line. I used that to base the whole direction of it, and used the limbs to line and frame the words." Renee, who does all of her design work in the digital format, said she has many fond memories of the Dogwood Festivals of her youth. "It's always around my birthday," she said. "When I had slumber parties as a kid we always ended up at the Dogwood Festival. We almost always spent my birthday there. For me, it was something to go and do. I liked it when there were a lot of crafters. I always got a Jacob's ladder when I went, the little kid's toy that is made from the wooden blocks. I would go find a vendor that had those every year." Renee said she is excited to see festival attendees wearing her design. She said she does come from an artistic family. "It's something we all do," she added. "It's always been a hobby. I just kind of turned it into a career." • Commercial • Auto Glass/Chip Repair • Residential • Shower Doors & Mirrors Showcasing Siloam, were honored to see you in town for our annual event.
