NWA Democrat Gazette
W
ayne Mays, Chamber
President and CEO,
knows the Dogwood
Festival is good for Siloam Springs
and good for business. "It is a great
way to kick off spring," he said.
"Once a year families in the
region have an event to get excited
about," he said. "It's early in the
spring. Sometimes it's the first time
they have been able to get out
of the house in good weather. It's
held in beautiful Downtown Siloam
Springs along the edge of Sager
Creek. It's a great setting, with a lot
of grass, trees and water. People
are looking for something different.
They are ready to end the winter
and get started with their spring
and summer."
The Dogwood Festival allows
residents and visitors to shed the
winter blues and get out with
family and friends and welcome the
new year.
"The Dogwood Festival focuses
right in that time frame," he
explained. "Sometimes the
dogwoods are blooming at that
point, and sometimes they have
bloomed and are gone. But, people
are looking for something different
in food, entertainment, crafts, rides
and activities. Getting out of the
house to do those things is a big
plus. It's geared for families."
When putting the plan together,
Wayne said, chamber staff and
volunteers responsible for the
event take a lot of things into
account. They want something that
will appeal to everyone.
