October 5, 1934, in Minden, Neb., to Nels and
Luella (Meyer) Tomsen. He attended country
school until the third grade and then went to
Minden public schools, graduating from Minden
High School in 1952. During his high school
career, he was all-state in football and co-captain
of the 1952 state champion basketball team.
He then attended the University of Nebraska
at Lincoln, studying agriculture. As a member
of Beta Tau, he made many lifelong friends.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; daughter,
Molly, and husband, Steve Anderson; son, Andy
Tomsen '78, and his wife, Jana; grandchildren,
Caitlyn (Anderson) Hawthorne and husband

Gordon "Bud" Arneson '57 entered Chapter
Eternal on August 16. Bud lived in Phoenix,
Ariz., for the past 23 years, where he enjoyed
softball and tennis, just like in his younger
days. Husker football remained his very favorite
pastime. Bud is survived by his wife of 55 years,
Peggy, and their two sons, Scott Arneson '87
and Jeff.
Dr. Wilfred R. Gartner Jr. '66 entered Chapter
Eternal on April 15. Bill attended Central
High School and the University of Nebraska-
Lincoln. He attended San Francisco School of
Podiatry, following in his family's footsteps—his
grandfather was the first podiatrist in the state of
Nebraska, and his father and several uncles were
also foot doctors. After graduating, Bill practiced
as a podiatrist in Omaha and also had offices in
Kearney and Lincoln for many years. Bill always
had a passion for golf, downhill skiing, biking,
and travel. He was spontaneous in his activities
and was a frequent visitor to Minnesota, where he
spent time and holidays with his sister's family.
He attended Dundee Presbyterian Church his
entire life and was involved with the Mariners'
ministry for many years. Bill is preceded in death
by parents, Dr. Wilfred and Juanita Gartner, and
sister, Jeanne Haman. He is survived by brother-in-
law, Eugene Haman; nephew, Hugh Haman (Ella);
and niece, Liz Hetherington (Lee).
Alumni, Family,
and Friends Return
Home to Beta Tau
O
n September 23, alumni and their
families came to the Shelter for a fun-
filled afternoon before the Rutgers game.
Alumni and active members conversed over a
terrific meal of pulled pork, mashed potatoes,
and baked beans. The alumni that made the
trip told stories of their glory days while the
active members listened in amazement. It was
a wonderful event followed by a Husker win.
We sure are excited to do it again next year.
