THE FORGET-ME-NOT 2 Our senior sisters during the Preference round of spring recruitment. Welcome, new Delta sisters! Q: What was it like sharing the sorority with your family members? Karen: It was a really neat experience. I met my husband because his sister is my sorority sister. He jokes that he married his sister's sister. Amy: When my brother started dating Karen, whom he fell in love with, I realized how real sorority sisters are. When my niece, Lauren, went to college and discovered that ΑΦ was going to colonize at her school, she persuaded her friends to join the chapter. Lauren: I was able to reconnect with my mom and Aunt Amy on the level of sorority sister. It was really cool to have that as I grew into a woman. Q: Did you hold any executive offices an undergraduate? Karen: I was rush director. Amy: I was pledge trainer, which is now called the fraternity educator. I was also rush assistant. Lauren: I didn't hold an executive position, but I was director of parent alumni relations last fall and am director of sisterhood this semester. Q: What are your favorite ΑΦ memories? Karen: String Night, which was how you found out who your big sister was. I lived in the chapter house my senior year, and the members took an entire ball of yarn and strung it throughout the house for the more than 30 pledges. Amy: I'd have to say a lot of my best memories of ΑΦ centered on my big sister, Pia Napolitano Ledina '91, who I am still friends with today. She convinced me to join the chapter. String Night and initiation were fun too. After initiation, my chapter sisters dyed my hair red to match my BBS, Debbie Blazey Martin '88, and my BBBS, Heidi Claus Perry '87. Lauren: On Bid Night, we all went over to one of the sister's apartments and hung out, eating McDonalds. We chilled, had a sleepover, and formed our bond. Q: What is your career/career plans? Karen: I started out pre-med at Cornell. Today, I am a middle school math teacher. Amy: I am a companion animal veterinarian in Northern Virginia. Lauren: My hope after graduating is to work in or around New York City. My ultimate goal is to work in healthcare diagnostics, hopefully, for a company that has a really good purpose. Q: Do you stay in touch with your sisters from Delta? Karen: I keep in touch with Becky Fadel King '89 and several others on Facebook. Amy: I stay connected with my former roommate, Melissa Trumbull '92, my pledge sisters Lynn Feigenbaum Neri '92 and Renee Hunter Toth '92, Nora Bensahel '93 (whose cats I take care of in Virginia), Shari Jaffess Davidson '89, and Dawn Hollowell Costello '92. I wish I was able to see Kathy Brandenburg Vega '91, Pia Napolitano Ledina '91, and Laura Kenny Kohls '91 more often, but I do keep up with several of my chapter sisters through Facebook. Lauren: Aside from my mom and Aunt Amy, I am close with former Chapter President Noel Casone, Kappa Delta '17 and my big sister, Annie Topoleski, Kappa Delta '19. Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Karen: I enjoy reading, cooking, volunteer work at church, and serving on committees. I'm not really a runner, but my son and I do the Marine Corps 10k every year. I'm also involved in my daughter's chapter. I attended her initiation and signed the charter. Amy: I like trail walking and hiking. I also keep up with my sons, who are involved in ultimate Frisbee and other sports. I helped coach their robotics team, science team, and am very involved with their school. Lauren: Painting, working out, hiking in the NYC area, and taking art classes in Hoboken, New Jersey, are my favorite things to do, along with spending time with my chapter sisters. You can connect with Amy at doctormouse@ yahoo.com, Karen at sachskk@yahoo.com, and Lauren at sachs.lauren.e@gmail.com.
