The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, March 16, 2018 20 By sarah Jamieson TV Media Cracking up the veneer: If you listen to Adam Conover, nothing is what it seems. The comedian embarks on a play- ful, funny and sometimes in- tense quest to reveal the hid- den truths behind everyday subjects in "Adam Ruins Every- thing," which returns for a new season on Tuesday, March 20, on truTV. Host and investigative co- median Conover tackles all manner of topics, ranging from the workplace and voting to forensic science and security. Not only does he make his au- dience see the world in a new way, he provides lots of fun facts to share. This season, he examines how our perception tricks us, why people find it difficult to file their taxes, and why IQ tests aren't an accurate mea- sure of intelligence. He also looks at how fake psychics trick their victims and dismiss- es the faked moon landing conspiracy. Another episode examines why flawed studies get famous and why detox cleanses are a ripoff. Conover delves into the common histo- ry we take for granted, such as why the Mona Lisa is famous, how Hawaii became a state, and the disturbing history of the suburbs. Conover got the gig as host after joining College Humor as a staff writer and cast member. The comedian starred in a few originals, including "Mitt Romney Style," and has also appeared in "Hardly Work- ing." He's performed with The Upright Citizens Brigade The- atre in NYC. Creature comforts: If you've ever wanted to know what it's like behind the scenes at the Bronx Zoo, you'll want to check out "The Zoo." Filmed over an eight-month period, the docuseries takes audiences behind the scenes of the world-renowned zoo that's only 10 miles from Times Square. A new episode airs Saturday, March 24, on Animal Planet. The Bronx Zoo spans about 265 acres and features more than 6,000 animals and a ded- icated staff of more than 500 people. It's a wild ride to make it all run smoothly for the ani- mals and the daily influx of vis- itors. One episode sees the team preparing a silverback gorilla with glaucoma for a pi- oneering treatment to im- prove his eyesight. On the oth- er side of the zoo, they try to move two Malayan tiger cubs that have grown too big for their cage. The keepers must transfer the cubs to the adult exhibit at Tiger Mountain. realtalk B/The Pine Shop 6x7.5
