Washington County
is in the northwest
corner of Arkansas in
the Ozark Mountains. It
was established on Oct.
17, 1828, formed from
Lovely County, which
was part of Indian
Territory. Washington
County has grown
from small settlements of farms, mills, and
orchards into one of the most affluent and
prosperous counties in the state.
Prairie Grove, Farmington, and Lincoln
comprise West Washington County. Each
community boasts a range of attractions
and amenities that are centered around the
history of the area, as well as the geography.
A trip to Prairie Grove's Battlefield State
Park, which is recognized nationally as
one of America's most intact Civil War
battlefields, teaches the rich history of the
area. Lincoln's Arkansas Apple Festival
draws visitors and vendors from all over
the nation to come see the arts and cras
of the Ozarks. Arkansas' only stand-alone
children's library facility can also be
found in Prairie Grove.
Farmington, the third fastest
growing city in Washington County, has
a very active Community Senior Center
and other service and retail based
industries.
Each of these communities have
their own distinct attractions that draw
more people to move there yearly and call
West Washington County home.
