Elected in 2016, she is the first Vietnamese-American woman to serve in the U.S. Congress. She was named the "most effective" freshman and ranked sec- ond "most bipartisan" freshman Member of Congress. She introduced 12 bills and gath- ered more than 530 co-sponsors, far more than any other freshman Member of Con- gress. In 1979, when she was six months old, her family fled communist-controlled Vietnam. She went on to become a nation- al security specialist for the Department of Defense, a businesswoman and a professor. When she shared her story at an FSPAC board dinner in October 2017, she spoke with conviction about the importance of her fraternal experience.
